What would your kid do?

Madelyn Eaves, 3, knew what to do when her mom fainted: Call 911. With her 10-month-old brother at home and her mother lying unconscious, little Madelyn was able to calmly guide dispatchers to her house, describing its color as well as the cars in the driveway because her mom taught her a jingle called "911 green" to prepare Madelyn for the times when "mommy falls down." Currently three months pregnant, Jessica has a medical condition that causes her to faint during pregnancy. This isn't the first time Madelyn's quick thinking saved the day; Madelyn also used her mom's Blackberry to call the last person in her call log when Jessica fainted a year ago. Momlogic got the exclusive interview with Jessica:

Momlogic:How long have you had this condition?

Jessica: It started when I was pregnant with my son, Jack, and he's 10 months old. I have a sudden drop in blood pressure in my brain, and it causes me to faint. It only happens when I am pregnant. There are all sorts of things you can do to teach your body to cope with it, but there is no real cure for it. I taught my daughter how to dial 911 only three weeks before this happened. I'm expecting again now, and I wanted to be prepared in case we're home alone and my husband is at work or something. I wanted to make sure the kids would be OK.

ML: How did you explain it to her so that she wouldn't be scared?

Jessica: I just told her 'if mommy falls down, you need to sing this song and find mommy's phone and call 911.'  I told her where the buttons were and I asked her every once in a while, "What do you do if mommy falls down?"

ML: What would you say to other moms who are want to teach their kids how to call 911?

Jessica: Sometimes parents underestimate their kids' capabilities. We should all make kids aware of what to do in an emergency. Sometimes parents freak out more than kids do. I think parents and grandparents should teach their kids that they can always get help by dialing this phone number.

Jessica and Madelyn appeared on The Early Show this morning to share their story.
