New study says kids eat worse once school's out.
In a recent New York Times story, the writer warns her daughter about the dangers of cheese fries at summer camp. (800 calories? Yikes!) Used to be that moms worried about what kids were eating at school. But a new study shows that after all our cafeteria concerns, often summertime presents an even greater challenge to get kids to eat well.
The data from the survey found that many kids' body mass index increased more during the summer than it did during the school year, due to everything from bad camp food to too many hours spent in air-conditioned comfort in front of the TV.
At least the kids that are lucky enough to go to sleep-away camp have the advantage of many activities. Experts say the key is keeping kids as active as possible during the summer, including making time for designated "recess breaks."
What do you do to keep your kids active and healthy during the summer?
