Bring Your 'Dog-Child' to Work Day

Dogs and kids are so similar, we think it's hard to tell them apart.

Today is National Take your Dog to Work Day, when fans of canines can cart them off to the workplace to witness the daily grind. Since pet upkeep is due to surpass the $43 billion mark by 2011, its no big surprise dog owners are as attached to their mutts as we are to our kids. So why don't they get equal treatment? Most workers are much more welcoming to doggy visitors than the human children, but we think the two are amazingly similar:

A day at the office with dogs OR kids includes plenty of...

Slobbering
Dogs, just like kids, like to put everything in their mouths. If your kid's teething, he's no different than most pooches on a regular day--especially those bulldogs. Bring plenty of rags to mop up work-impeding drool from both mutts and tots--bound to show up on co-workers keyboards, monitors and your boss.

Poop
Who can say their dog is 100% potty trained? Dogs, just like kids, have accidents. And if yours confuses the conference room for a dog park, it's really going to stink--especially during a meeting.

Whining
What dog wants to be cooped up all day at your feet in a cubicle? They get restless, just like bored children. Then the whining starts, followed by the howling and the yelping. (We're still talking about the kids here.) We recommend bringing a muzzle for children AND dogs if anyone's gonna get any work done.

Chew Toys
Make sure you bring plenty of diversions for dogs and kids. Most have a favorite toy or stuffed animal or squeaky toy they can't live without. These days it's hard to tell a dog toy apart from a teething ring. But watch out, if you try to take a favorite toy away from a dog or a kid, you just might end up with a bloody hand.

Leashes
Does your dog know how to heel? Neither do most kids, and when either are let loose in an office space, the fur can fly. So can the printer paper, the pens and the hanging files. Remember, choke chains are inhumane!

Really stupid. Why do people treat dogs like they’re human when they’re not?

not stupid at all. what’s wrong with showing love to an animal? its up to the employers if they want to do this, so what’s the big deal? I LOVE DOGS, SO THERE!

I was just thinking about this the other day. I think that it is a way to compensate for those who don’t have kids to show what is important to them. So why not have both?

I love pets too. But what about the people who are severely allergic to pets that shed especially (cats & dogs). No one ever thinks there may be people who suffer from asthma and could die. What about all the shedding hair and other people in the office going home with pet hair on their clothes! Unless he all have non-shedding (allergen free) dogs (or hairless cats) like poodles etc, maybe we should re-think this. *think law-suits*
