Father Doesn't Always Know Best

With Father's Day drawing near, here are 10 ways dads don't always get it right.
Back in the '60s, there was a show called Father Knows Best--but he didn't really. (Otherwise, there wouldn't have been a show.) But we're not here to slam dear old dads--we think dads always do a great job. Well, sometimes, um, every once in a while...when we ask them--nicely. Over and over and over and over and over again until we can't take it anymore and end up doing it ourselves. But still.
The point is neither parent is perfect. But what kind of moms/women would we be if we didn't point out the "quirks" of some of the dads we know?
Top 10 Reasons Father Doesn't Know Best
1) Lets the kids wear flip-flops and shorts on 50-degree day.
2) Thinks good bonding time is watching Jackass: The Movie with his 10-year-old son.
3) On the night of her first date, tries to convince his daughter to wear a turtleneck--making her burst into tears, run into her room, and slam the door.
4) When left alone with the kids to make dinner, serves cinnamon rolls as the main course.
5) Nearly gets in a head-on collision with another shopping cart when playing "race car" with your toddler in the "driver's seat."
6) Insists on wearing his "World's Best Dad T-shirt even when it's filthy.
7) Plays that terrifying game of tossing the baby in the air until the baby's head gets dangerously close to the ceiling (hey, at least that's what it looks like to a nervous mom).
8) Tries to keep up with his teenage son and ends up throwing his back out playing HORSE.
9) Instead of answering the kids' many questions, tells them to look it up on the Internet.
10) Actually believes "Father knows best."
Abby, maybe you’re confusing this site with dadlogic?
everyone is celebrating dads this week. I think it’s appropriate to be funny… after all, we have to spend 24 hours doing all the work around the house and taking care of the kids. wait, that’s no different from any other sunday, right? :)
I must be the weird one… I read this list, and all I could think was how great dads are for everything they do, even if it terrifies us moms occasionally. My husband does most of the above-mentioned things (racing the shopping cart, throwing our son in the air, letting him wear weather-inappropriate clothing, etc etc) and I love it… I love that my husband is involved, and wants to do his own thing with our child.
april, not everyone is as lucky as you. Keep it to yourself.
Anonymous - keep what to myself? I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to comment about my husband as it relates to an article on this website.
My father was more like a sperm donor than a daddy to me, and the same can be said for my husband’s father. So I’m sorry if I’m proud of my husband for being such a wonderful father. I’m sorry if you’re not in the same situation as me, but that doesn’t mean that I should have to keep anything to myself so as not to offend you.
My father has done many of these things, and I love him for it. The fact that he is trying, and being involved and loving COMPLETELY makes up for the fact that sometimes he has a little different idea of how to raise me and my siblings than my mother does.
Also, I can see that this article was meant to be humorous and not taking a “jab at dad” the week before fathers day… all in good fun!
IN ALL FAIRNESS, IAM A FATHER OF SIX GIRLS AND SOME OF US FATHERS ARE BETTER THAN SOME OF THE MOTHERS IHAVE RUN INTO IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, LIKE THE ONE IN MY NEARBY GROCERY STORE THAT LEFT TWO BABYS IN HER MINI VAN WHILE SHE WAS IN THE STORE, OH SHE ALSO LEFT IT RUNNING AND IT WAS 85 DEGREES OUT SO I CALL THE POLICE AND WHEN SHE WAS CONFRONTED WITH IT TRYED TO MAKE ME THE BAD GUY FOR LOOKING IN HER TRUCK, I LEFT AND DIDNT SAY A THING BUT GUESS WHAT I WAS THINKING. Great site. Enjoyable reading. There is one point to make about shirts.

Saying something nice about fathers the week leading up to Father’s Day would be more appropriate?
