Children need not fear: Not only does no one hit a person with glasses but, according to a new study, kids also think wearing them means you're honest and smart.
Perhaps fueled by the success of Bill Gates and that Potter fella, glasses are no longer considered uncool, says the latest research. The findings could ease a child's reluctance to be fitted for spectacles. In the study, children were asked a series of questions about photos of kids with and without glasses. About two-thirds said kids wearing glasses looked smarter than those without glasses, and 57% said children wearing glasses looked more honest. And who would dare taunt an honest, smart kid with "Hey, four eyes!"
In some kids' minds, glasses are the ultimate fashion accessory. One mom remembers, "My youngest daughter wanted glasses so badly because her big sister just got them, but when we went to the eye doctor for her exam, she burst into tears because the doctor told her she had perfect vision. She was so upset I bought her a pair of clear glasses. She wore them everyday."
