Mom & Kids Review 'Camp Rock'
Momlogic's Julie and her two kids review Camp Rock.
Does Camp Rock measure up to High School Musical 1 or 2? Momlogic's Julie and her two kids review Disney Channel's new mega-hit movie to see if it lives up to the hype.
Julie: When my kids wanted to watch Camp Rock, I was less than thrilled -- picturing the Jonas Brothers acting gave me Monkees flashbacks (not in a good way). The movie itself was so formulaic and by the numbers, it was almost painful to watch. And a key plot point involved a girl lying about who her mom was, just to make herself look better. (No mom could feel good watching that. Cringe.)
But my favorite moment of the movie came in the first two minutes, when Mitchie came out of her closet wearing the $300 Nanette Lepore frock I'd splurged on a few weeks earlier. She was playing a poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks, so she would never be able to afford such a dress in real life. (In fact, the only reason I could afford it was because it was on clearance.) But it made me laugh that I owned the same dress that some stylist thought was just perfect for a 15-year-old. My husband said this was proof that I was still "young and hip." That's funny, 'cause watching Camp Rock made me feel very, very old.

Seena, 4: My favorite was Nick Jonas because I'm in love with Nick from the Jonas Brothers. I pretended to faint every time he came on screen. I also liked the main girl in the movie, Mitchie. Her voice sounds very pretty. When I had a play date after the movie, I pretended to be Nick and my friend Madison pretended she was Mitchie. We had so much fun! I really love Nick. This is the best movie ever.
Holden, 7: I liked Camp Rock very much. It was about a boy band, Connect Three, who had a mean lead singer named Shane Gray. As punishment, he was sent to Camp Rock, where he met Mitchie, a girl just trying to fit in. Mitchie used to play Angela on Barney so I'd seen her before when I was little. There were a lot of cool songs and dancing in Camp Rock. Plus, the Jonas Brothers were really funny. I liked it when Shane played guitar because I like to play Guitar Hero. But I didn't like this movie as much as High School Musical 1 or 2. There was too much lying--Mitchie said her mom was the president of Hot Tunes when she was really the camp cook, just to impress a mean girl. Lying is not cool.
You can watch Camp Rock right now until midnight at Disney.com/CampRock.
