Judge orders kids returned to polygamist parents: Texas Judge Barbara Walther signed an order today calling for the immediate return of nearly 400 children seized from a polygamist compound in April. Parents are not allowed to leave the state without the court's permission, must take parenting classes, and cannot interfere with the child abuse investigation, according to the conditions of the children's release.

Rate of cancer in children highest in northeast: A new study from the CDC in the journal Pediatrics found the highest rate of childhood cancer in the northeast region of the United States. The national average of reported child cancer cases are 166 for every million and is 179 out of every million in the northeast. The south has the lowest rate of cancer with only 159 out of every million cases. Scientists believe environmental factors and radiation exposure could be the cause for the varying rates.

Teacher dies minutes after retiring: Sharon Smith retired after a 36-year teaching career only to suffer a heart attack and die after saying good-bye to her 4th grade class. Mrs. Smith was said to be "one in a million" and a "fine teacher who loved technology, and was someone on whom teachers and students could depend."

Girls benefit more from breastfeeding than boys: Breast milk has long been known to have more advantages to children than baby formula, but new research finds a mother's milk has greater benefits for girls than boys. Girls who were breastfed were less likely to suffer from respiratory infections such as bronchiolitis and other viral infections than boys.
