Obama calls for black fathers to step up: Celebrating Father's Day in Chicago, Senator Barack Obama addressed the Apostolic Church of God congregation and called for black fathers to take a more active role in their children's lives. Obama said black fathers are "missing from too many lives and too many homes" and "acting like boys instead of men," which weakens families. The democratic presidential nominee, who was abandoned by his father when he was just two years old, said he resolved to break the cycle and be a good father to his two daughters.

Food prices expected to soar in wake of Iowa flood: Thousands of Iowa residents are assessing the damage to their homes and property as the overflowing rivers start to subside. While the exact damage remains unknown, experts expect the cost of corn and soy to see a significant spike, which means increased prices at the grocery store checkout line.

Elian Gonzalez joins Young Communist Union: Elian Gonzalez became the center of an international custody battle 8 years ago after his mother died in a boating accident during her attempt to flea Cuba for the U.S. Now 14 years old , Elian has joined the Young Communist Union and said he will "never let down ex-President Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro."

A kid-friendly sex shop opens in NY: A new sex-toy shop being billed as "kid-friendly" opened in Brooklyn this weekend and even includes infant changing tables. Some moms are outraged that the shop has popped up in a family-friendly area, but others say it is "tastefully done." Only in New York!

i think it’s about time someone did’nt mince words and told it like it is.Not that all black men are absentee dads but for those that are should take heed to barack’s words. i was raised in a single parent household and was myself a single parent for a while so i know of what i speak. maybe they will listen because it came from another african american male who is definitley a role model.
