Guest blogger Robin was shocked when she got a great workout from her kid's Razor.
My kids love to exercise. A few weeks ago Daniel, my 7-year-old, suggested that we take their Razor scooters out for a ride.
Yeah, right!
I'm 39 and not exactly the "scooter type." But hey, I figured it would be different and maybe even, gulp, fun.
We got on our helmets and padding, then scooted all over the neighborhood--to his school, down a path to the local park, across a bridge and back. Even though I'm a fitness editor and writer, I had never thought of the scooter as a workout tool. This was the most intense glute workout I've ever done. Just be careful to pace yourself and to alternate lead legs. Trust me, your bottom will be sore.
To balance out the cardio and lower-body workout, we did wall push ups, which work the chest, back, abs and biceps, and triceps dips on the curb. Children shouldn't work out with more than their own body weight, so these moves are perfect for little physiques.
It's so rare that you can get in a great workout and bond with your kids at the same time. To me, that's a win-win!
