Denise and Dina: Normal Moms?
What does guest blogger Vuv-A-Licious Mom think about E's two new shows featuring famous moms Denise Richards and Dina Lohan?
I eagerly anticipated E!'s new lineup of shows featuring famous moms who claimed (to any reporter that would listen) that their goals were to show the world that they are good moms leading normal lives.
Denise Richards, It's Complicated
After watching the first two episodes of Denise Richards' reality TV debut, one thing is clear to me....her life is complicated. First, I'm hoping to find out in Episode 3 whether Denise can spell "com-pli-cated" and second, who knew how challenging her life was. Perhaps E! can throw her a telethon. That would make for good reality TV. Since money doesn't seem to be a problem, perhaps people can pledge pig sperm.
Who knew?!! Denise Richards is a pig pimp looking for a boyfriend for her pig Charlotte. This is the storyline to illustrate she has a normal life? Where--on Green Acres? Think the name of the pig is a reference to Charlotte's Web? Because I believe I read that in the second grade and I'm thinking that may be Denise's reading level.
I was touched by Denise's decision to throw her dad a barbecue in Episode 1, only I was confused because she didn't even know that she did not own a barbeque. If this chick wasn't born gorgeous, she'd be walking around Disneyland eating turkey legs. No wonder Charlie did drugs!
This week, Denise took on the tabloids and what did we learn? She really is a lying home wrecker, but she has kids and her mother was dying of cancer so no one should write the truth about her. We learned something else--poor Denise sure does know how to throw the f-bomb (and the c-word).
In a future episode, she's going to have her "Charlie" tattoo removed. This has me on the edge of my seat. If they can't remove it, maybe she can add "should not have signed the waiver" after his name. The kids are stunning but...Denise, this show has nothing to do with normalcy or motherhood.
Living Lohan
Although I have some concern that Victoria Gotti and Dina Lohan may be the same person, I couldn't help but like Dina Lohan in Living Lohan.
I threw out my preconceived notions about her. Since I haven't lived under a rock, I know of her reputation as a stage mother and of her nasty divorce and of the potential negatives of raising a famous kid whose bouts with eating disorders, drugs, and alcohol have taken place in the public eye.
Disclaimers aside, she's a "lion protecting her cubs," and I found the show compelling. Dina seems to be genuinely concerned about the well-being of her children and I think moms can relate to her belief that she is best suited to raise them and manage them. I also "felt her pain" (maybe guilt) when she was at a party celebrating her, not the kids, and she found out the kids were potentially in danger.
I will tune in again to find out if Dina can manage Jeremy, the ambitious young music producer. Will he sell out the family for his own fame or will they mutually use each other to get what they need? Will what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas?
Are the Lohans leading a "normal" life? Not in comparison to mine, they're not, but given the choice to shoot the breeze with famous mom Denise Richards or Dina Lohan about livin' life and raising kids, I would choose Dina anyday.
