Caught On Tape: Cop Attacks Biker

filed under: viral videos

The rookie New York cop who was caught on tape attacking a seemingly innocent biker was sentenced today.

Patrick Pogan, 22, is a third generation NYPD officer. He claimed that cyclist Christopher Long deliberately drove into him during a Critical Mass ride -- which is, ironically, an ongoing cycling event held to highlight how unfriendly cities are to bicyclists. However, the YouTube video tells a different story. Long tried to avoid the police officer, who appears to have randomly body-checked him. Pogan was stripped of his badge and gun on Monday and is now on desk duty.

Should he still be on the city's payroll -- or better yet, what would you do if you were his mother?

Wow, that was totally deliberate. The cop saw him, walked in the direction Long was riding looking straight at his face, then the cop picked up his pace and totally shoved Long. Not cool. I say he should get desk duty for a year and garbage clean up patrol of the next 10 major city events, until he learns some people skills.

Oh and if I was HIS mom, I’d smack him myself and ask what the h3ll he was thinkin. If he can’t control his anger or stop being a show off, then he’d better make other plans for his career, cuz he won’t last.

The cop is obviously lying. The film clearly shows the officer aggressively knocking the cyclist over for no apparent reason. Why were the cops even standing in the middle of the road, deliberately blocking cyclists? The officer should be criminally charged for lying and for assault.

Whats funny is that if that had not been caught on camera the guy on the bike would probably be in jail right now.

If I was his mother, I’d pretend that I wasn’t.

scumbag plain & simple. hid behind shoulder pads, now hides behind a tin. Wouldn’t have been selected or survived the toughest: New Jersey State Police. He’ll be bagging groceries when IA finishes him, and just as well. See ya at Wal-Mart Pogan.

Third generation eh, what a shame. In one stupid move he managed to shame his entire lineage of badge wearing family. He should not be on the police department. To protect and to serve…

I hate to bring this up. but African Americans have been testifying to police brutality for the last century. How many of us of European descent disbelieved it? I mean, why would any cop in his right mind act like that? Then came Rodney King, & the bystander video…surveillance camera video…official vehicle-mounted video….and we all have to think again. Nevertheless, I believe that since the advent of surveillance, incidents of police brutality have actually DECREASED, even while more have been brought to public attention, simply because EVERYONE behaves better when he’s being watched.
