Christian Bale: Mom-Abuser?
A family therapist tells us why.
This morning in Moms Are Talking About, we told you about The Dark Knight star Christian Bale being arrested for verbally abusing his mom in London. He allegedly assaulted his mom and sister Sunday in a hotel suite, the night before his blockbuster movie premiered in London, TMZ reports. British police sources say he went to a London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested there.
According to published reports, Christian's mother, Jenny, once worked as a clown and a dancer, riding elephants and introducing acts in the circus. She is a passionate advocate for environmental and animal rights.
Family therapist Dr. Jane Greer says: "When you assault your mother, you're dealing with primal, core levels of anger, fury and rage. Somewhere in the course of their childhood, this person has likely felt overly controlled, unrelated to, and misunderstood by that mother. So he's taking his built-up rage out on her, but his anger comes from her. There are plenty of people who are angry at their parents but don't abuse them, but the person who assaults their parents really needs anger management. Once you turn on your mom and sis, that is bad."
Update: Christian Bale released a statement Tuesday denying assault allegations
that led to his arrest in London: "Christian Bale attended a London
police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an
allegation
that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister,"
the actor's rep said in the statement. "Mr. Bale who denies the
allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the
events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by
the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."
