Christian Bale: Mom-Abuser?

A family therapist tells us why.

This morning in Moms Are Talking About, we told you about The Dark Knight star Christian Bale being arrested for verbally abusing his mom in London. He allegedly assaulted his mom and sister Sunday in a hotel suite, the night before his blockbuster movie premiered in London, TMZ reports. British police sources say he went to a London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested there.

According to published reports, Christian's mother, Jenny, once worked as a clown and a dancer, riding elephants and introducing acts in the circus. She is a passionate advocate for environmental and animal rights.

Family therapist Dr. Jane Greer says: "When you assault your mother, you're dealing with primal, core levels of anger, fury and rage. Somewhere in the course of their childhood, this person has likely felt overly controlled, unrelated to, and misunderstood by that mother. So he's taking his built-up rage out on her, but his anger comes from her. There are plenty of people who are angry at their parents but don't abuse them, but the person who assaults their parents really needs anger management. Once you turn on your mom and sis, that is bad."

Update: Christian Bale released a statement Tuesday denying assault allegations that led to his arrest in London: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation
that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister," the actor's rep said in the statement. "Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."

What do you think about this incident?

He didn’t “BEAT” his mum or sister… all we know at the moment is he lashed out at them which is a very loose but descriptive term. Why do we as a society automatically want to put people down that way. I am in no way saying that if he did do something that he was justified but the truth is we do not know anything yet!

I am sickened by this guy! He’s on top of the world with his movie breaking box office records, has a wife and a kid, and then HITS his mom and sister? Just goes to show you that money and fame do not buy happiness.

Okay, first of all, there is no allegation that he beat either of them. That is called battery, not assault. Second of all, assault only requires that the victim feel that they were threatened or in imminent danger of being harmed. From what I understand, he is estranged from his mother and sister. If that’s the case, they likely wanted something from him, or angered him in some way, and he yelled at them. Being that he is famous, they probably are concocting the whole thing or deliberately blowing it out of proportion for the sake of legal reparations. For the record, I am not just a “fan” who is blindly defending Christian Bale, but I will not just believe something that has been given no supporting evidence, nor would I blow it out of proportion, nor would I misconstrue “assault” as “beating someone” like the author of this article and many others. I strongly recommend you all do not do these things either, but that’s just my opinion, if it’s worth anything.

allegedly. No one should start condemning him until it is proved. He’s been an actor in the lime light for how long? There is a pretty good chance that if he had a history of being abusing there would have been at least some hint of it before now.

Like what Brian said, there’s a DIFFERENCE between Assault and Battery, hence why it’s either one, the other or both. Assault is the threat, battery is the act, if you threaten someone and then follow through with it then it’s assault and battery. So no, he didn’t beat anyone. It could have been as simple as him saying “leave of I’ll throw you out.” Being a hotel there’s sure to have been witnesses if there was anything more to it.

It could have been as simple as him saying “leave of I’ll throw you out.” Taking it as a legit threat and reporting it and seeing as he apparently doesn’t have a good relationship with his mother or this sister makes it seem like they just went there unannounced, possibly to cause trouble. Being a hotel there’s sure to have been witnesses if there was anything more to it. I guess “mom logic” is to make sensationalistic headlines with knee jerk reactions with nothing to back them up as well as taking terminology completely wrong.

And as expected, it has come out that it was for “verbal assault”.

We weren’t there we don’t know what really happened , especially w/ their family history… shame on MOMLOGIC for sensationalizing such a headline!

I don’t believe there was any physical assault and perhaps she is bitter towards her son and his success. She did, after all, force him to choose between her and his father after the divorce and he chose his father. I do not defend abusers, I left an abusive marriage, but I do not defend throwing someone “under the bus” without knowing the facts

apparently his mother was making highly offensive comments to Bale about his wife - he didn’t hit her, he swore at her, I would do the same thing.
