A popular teen pastime leads to death all too often.

This week, a 19-year-old pregnant woman and her 16-year-old sister were returning from back-to-school shopping when they were killed after being caught in the middle of a high speed race in Los Angeles. Three men were thrown from their cars, one died and two others were hospitalized in extremely critical condition. Police found victims and severed body parts strewn in the street when they arrived, and described it as "the most gruesome accident of its kind."  The parents of the two girls were vacationing in Hawaii when they received the call their daughters were dead.

This isn't the first time drag racing has turned fatal.

There was a car crash last week on a city street. They were speeding and cut off a car. The driver lost control of it, hit a curb and flipped it over. All 4 were thrown from it before it stopped on someone’s lawn. One died, two were critically injured and one actually walked way from the crash scene( his mother made him come back). The driver of the car who was cut off witnessed the whole thing. They found beer cans inside and outside of the car so drinking and speed were the causes.

This is STREET racing not drag racing. Drag racing is in a controlled environment, not public roadways. Drag racers work hard to maintain the safety of their sport and sponsor events for street vehicles to stop this type of behavior.
