'Dress' Gets Girl Booted

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

First, it was the case of a criminal prom dress. Now, a young woman is tossed from the mall for wearing a short dress. Funny thing is, she bought the little number at that very mall hours before, and the dress in question was actually a shirt. See the fashion crime and tell us--is she cute or should she get the boot?

Every year, girls' dresses seem to be getting shorter and shorter (as we get older and older). But when they're wearing shirts as dresses...hmmm. Kymberly Clem, 20, was thrown out of a Kentucky mall Saturday because the "dress" she was wearing was deemed too short by security guards. (Who knew they had such power?)

"The article of clothing that she is trying to pull off as a dress is actually a top--it was purchased at one of our retail stores," says Vickey Strunk, Richmond Mall manager. "We have a dress code here...if you are coming here to shop today, and you come in wearing a top with no pants, then we are going to ask you to leave."

Clem tells a different story: "I was walking through and 10 minutes after I was there, the security guard approached me, asked me to step aside, made me completely do a turn around while he stared me up and down and then asked me to leave because my outfit was too provocative and people's husbands was [sic] looking at me."

Men weren't the only ones staring.  One mother with small children complained because she says Klem's dress was so short you could see her thong.

The tank shirt, called a club shirt, was purchased at a Deb clothing stores in the mall. "We've seen this a million times," says a rep from Deb Stores. "Girls are always buying shirts as dresses--it depends really on your height, whether you can pull it off."

Because of the incident, the Richmond mall says they might have to update their dress code. "On our doors we clearly have posted 'no shoes, no shirt, no service,'" jokes Strunk. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to add 'no pants' to that."

Do you think the trashy looks sold in stores should be banned from malls?

What's up with wearing a shirt as a dress?! It's just one of the many fashion trends we wish would go away. Check out our photo gallery:

I wore shorter dresses than that in the early 70’s - to work and everywhere else and so did a majority of all the other 18 to 22 yr. olds. I’m not saying I like it now, but please, if she’s so indecently dressed, call the cops and have her arrested for indecent exposure. Far worse than this look is all of the “boys” running around with their pants around their knees - Not only does it look bad, but how in the world can they walk? They all look ridiculous and uncomfortable. The tacky thong underwear exposed when girls sit or bend over is a close 2nd. Unless I missed some more revealing pictures, her dress wasn’t as offensive as either one of the aforementioned “popular” trends - to me anyway!

I heard applications to become a mall “rent a cop” are soaring—so they can spin around short skirted women there! Can’t have too many of those smokey-bear cops to keep the malls safe from sexy dresses and skirts, after all. I also heard more husbands are starting to go to that mall—to see what they are not supposed to see! It really is THE important issue of our time so thank you for bringing it to our attention—i am analyzing the video time and again to I can get all the details.

My problem is that the dress show’s much too leg. If it were, say, 6-10 inches shorter, I still wouldn’t wear it but wouldn’t be completely appalled. I’m really not a fan of tight, short clothes like that, it’s really no wonder they kicked her out (even if I think how stupid it is not to be able to wear something you bought there!).

Keep feeding that fire burning in the zealot and self-righteous fanatic universe folks… you are just chipping away at your ability to be anything but some neo-facist state of religious nutballs. Fake morality rules this nation as does fake leadership.

Just because you fat ugly women can’t get your big booty in a little dress like this doesn’t give you the right to hate on those of us who can. Get your big butt to a gym and start working out. There is nothing wrong with this. If you looked like i do maybe your husband wouldn’t have wandering eyes or hands….. Later losers….

Dress wasn’t nearly as short as what we used to wear in the 60s and early 70s. Maybe what we’re seeing in these pictures does not give an accurate view but I can’t see where this dress is any different than hundreds of others I’ve seen. However, I don’t see where a mall security guard has the right to dictate anyone clothing choices. If they are not doing anything illeagle they don’t have a say.

Either we’re not getting the whole story, or it’s an attempt at a law suit. If you notice in the news video, the dress is longer and loose around the bottom(no pun)… but the dress in the photo is pulled up and pulled tight. Why would they kick her out for the dress in the video. The fact that it’s actually a shirt, you probably could see right through it.

When a young woman dresses with the motive of being looked at like a sex object that’s all people will think of you. The decent, classy guys wont have a thing to do with you. If you want a trashy life, trashy boyfriend, and a trashy job keep dressing like trash.

This is a joke. I think this dress looks cute on her. People who think different need to get a life. Most of you guys that are writing comments on this girl are probably middle age women who are jealous because you u cant pull this off or dont even look half way decent in regular clothes. What she wears is her business and if people think differently then you belong back in the roaring 20s lol when u were first born. Wake up its 2008 not 1950 anymore, you guys just dont know what fashion is anymore and u have the nerve to look ur nose down at people who are just being themselves.

If her thong was showing, it’s way too short. People staring, men staring. Of course they will. You parade “your goodies”, people will look. When you parade yourself as a prostitute, you can be assured you will receive prostitute attention. All you MORON WOMEN might want to think. You want respect, earn it. Women who flaunt “their goodies” are the same ones who complain they are being oogled, and start sexual harassment suits.

Why does this sound like the threshold of Shari law?? Are or are not the ‘morality police’ one of the evils our boys are dying for? How many of those soldiers do you think would find her more offensive than the ones who said she could not wear it?? Hm?

What makes the difference how short a dress is on a girl, when the boys run around with their undershorts showing

As more and more of our freedoms are being taken away, more and more people think it is OK. They tell her to leave because women were complaining that their husbands were distracted? Give me a break. If today’s housewives didn’t weigh in at 300 lbs. apiece, maybe they wouldn’t be as jealous when their husbands admire somebody more attractive than they are.

Shay, I totally disagree with you. I have a great body myself and what is considered great facial feature and I do not need to flaunt my body to gain any ones attention or as a show of self confidence. It is just plain trashy and shows lack of self respect. Keep in mind it was made as a blouse and to be sold as a blouse. Is that the only way she can get attention?
