'Dress' Gets Girl Booted

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

First, it was the case of a criminal prom dress. Now, a young woman is tossed from the mall for wearing a short dress. Funny thing is, she bought the little number at that very mall hours before, and the dress in question was actually a shirt. See the fashion crime and tell us--is she cute or should she get the boot?

Every year, girls' dresses seem to be getting shorter and shorter (as we get older and older). But when they're wearing shirts as dresses...hmmm. Kymberly Clem, 20, was thrown out of a Kentucky mall Saturday because the "dress" she was wearing was deemed too short by security guards. (Who knew they had such power?)

"The article of clothing that she is trying to pull off as a dress is actually a top--it was purchased at one of our retail stores," says Vickey Strunk, Richmond Mall manager. "We have a dress code here...if you are coming here to shop today, and you come in wearing a top with no pants, then we are going to ask you to leave."

Clem tells a different story: "I was walking through and 10 minutes after I was there, the security guard approached me, asked me to step aside, made me completely do a turn around while he stared me up and down and then asked me to leave because my outfit was too provocative and people's husbands was [sic] looking at me."

Men weren't the only ones staring.  One mother with small children complained because she says Klem's dress was so short you could see her thong.

The tank shirt, called a club shirt, was purchased at a Deb clothing stores in the mall. "We've seen this a million times," says a rep from Deb Stores. "Girls are always buying shirts as dresses--it depends really on your height, whether you can pull it off."

Because of the incident, the Richmond mall says they might have to update their dress code. "On our doors we clearly have posted 'no shoes, no shirt, no service,'" jokes Strunk. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to add 'no pants' to that."

Do you think the trashy looks sold in stores should be banned from malls?

What's up with wearing a shirt as a dress?! It's just one of the many fashion trends we wish would go away. Check out our photo gallery:

Wow, that’s not even a short dress…seriously, women dressing slutty is a good thing, not a bad thing. How can anyone kick a girl out of a mall for looking too sexy? Especially when it’s in a dress SOLD IN THE SAME MALL!!! Too bad she’s a complete moron…listen to her speak. “People can wear a shirt that says ‘I Hate God’ which offends me” what a moron!

I wish people would realize they are not rock stars and dress like normal people … I am sooooooo sick of seeing men and womens underwear every were I look ….If my daughter came home with that shirt to wear as a dress I would burn it …. more parents need to watch what their kids are wearing and burn the crap …. its awful out there when 10 year olds wear clothes that Ive seen hookers wear out on the street …. American parents need to start teaching their kids morals ….

The Dress looks acceptable. It’s the men or people’s husbands who should be escourted for looking too much at this girl. She has the right to walk around just like us. Go for it Girl. You should do something about that.

I think the dress is disgraceful. Our young people these days want to wear clothes way to short, to tight, and instead of looking nice they look like tramps. I also hate the sight of those daisy duke shorts, some of them you can see everything. What ever happened to modesty? Dress like a tramp, then hollar ‘RAPE” when a guy comes on to you.

How can you put someone out of a mall that sell that type of stuff..If they feel that it is trashy then they shouldn’t sell…I would sue the HELL OUT OF THE MALL…

My guess is that the store owner was another insecure woman. I don’t think she got kicked out because of what she was wearing, I think she got kicked out because the wives got jealous and complained to security. There was nothing wrong with this dress. It was not see through, it was not skin tight, it was not a plunge neckline. It was a dress that flared out a little at the bottom, and if the husbands were staring at this, they must be desperate

Whatever inspired this young lady to walk into a public place with her undergarments blatantly hanging out is beyond me. I don’t personally know her and she is probably a good person in many aspects I’m sure. However, if I saw this in any mall I would assume she has extremely low self worth. When people try that hard to attract that negative sexual attention, all I hear is “take me now, I’m desperate!” I hope she learned her lesson.

First of all, what qualifies the security guard to determine what is inappropriate? Secondly, what makes the mall think they are so special? They sell the clothes but don’t want you to wear them. Girls are wearing much more revealing skirts, shorts and bathing suits all over town and no one complains. Moms take their kids to the beach or pool where the girls wear thongs in public. Maybe the wives of those leering husbands should quit being jealous and get one of those tops. They might get more action at home. To the mother of the kids…they see more revealing clothes on MTV and a dozen other channels on TV. What was interesting is that it was OK to show the dress on the news but not at the mall? Give me a break.

Oh, yes, let’s pass *another* law and let the nanny state (used figuratively in this sense) tell us what we can and can’t do. The solution is in the home, raising our children and teens with a sense of responsibility toward social mores and some common sense. But making more rules doesn’t require the same amount of effort, so that’s what’ll happen.

Just because you buy an item at the mall doesn’t mean that’s it appropriate to wear there. Malls are family oriented, and most parents don’t want their children seeing someones private parts hanging out. There are some Malls with sporting goods stores that sell hunting rifles and shot guns, but that doesn’t mean that you can carry one around the mall.

This type of dressing is the reason rape is on the rise. Our morals are in the gutter. What happened to dressing like a lady? I own a store and see it everyday. You may not have seen her underware because she wasn’t wearing any!We see that all the time even girls trying on bridal gowns!

Unless she is under 5 feet tall, I don’t know who they really expect to wear it as a “shirt”
