'Dress' Gets Girl Booted

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

First, it was the case of a criminal prom dress. Now, a young woman is tossed from the mall for wearing a short dress. Funny thing is, she bought the little number at that very mall hours before, and the dress in question was actually a shirt. See the fashion crime and tell us--is she cute or should she get the boot?

Every year, girls' dresses seem to be getting shorter and shorter (as we get older and older). But when they're wearing shirts as dresses...hmmm. Kymberly Clem, 20, was thrown out of a Kentucky mall Saturday because the "dress" she was wearing was deemed too short by security guards. (Who knew they had such power?)

"The article of clothing that she is trying to pull off as a dress is actually a top--it was purchased at one of our retail stores," says Vickey Strunk, Richmond Mall manager. "We have a dress code here...if you are coming here to shop today, and you come in wearing a top with no pants, then we are going to ask you to leave."

Clem tells a different story: "I was walking through and 10 minutes after I was there, the security guard approached me, asked me to step aside, made me completely do a turn around while he stared me up and down and then asked me to leave because my outfit was too provocative and people's husbands was [sic] looking at me."

Men weren't the only ones staring.  One mother with small children complained because she says Klem's dress was so short you could see her thong.

The tank shirt, called a club shirt, was purchased at a Deb clothing stores in the mall. "We've seen this a million times," says a rep from Deb Stores. "Girls are always buying shirts as dresses--it depends really on your height, whether you can pull it off."

Because of the incident, the Richmond mall says they might have to update their dress code. "On our doors we clearly have posted 'no shoes, no shirt, no service,'" jokes Strunk. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to add 'no pants' to that."

Do you think the trashy looks sold in stores should be banned from malls?

What's up with wearing a shirt as a dress?! It's just one of the many fashion trends we wish would go away. Check out our photo gallery:

..TRASH TRASH TRASH I just hate people like her that show their “stuff” in public… I don’t have kids but I find it gross to see that at the mall. These days anywhere I go I see thongs, bras, boxers.. I mean pull your pants up, cover up your underwear and no one will have a problem. I’m over people like this.. J

Looks good to me and it is not too short by any stretch of the imagination, it comes down almost to her fingertips which is dress code for school here in Texas. My wife wears skirts that short!

I see this look on young ladies all the time. What inspires them to go into a public place dressed with their undergarments blatantly hanging out is beyond me. It is one thing to dress up to feel sexy, I think this shows a healthy image of self confidence. BUT, and we’ve all been here, when you dress in a scant manner so that some or many inappropriate body parts are exposed, this is no accident. We know how to dress decently and how to dress skanky. We’re women, we’re not unintelligent by any means. It’s just that sometimes when we have low self worth, things like this happen, we send a message through what we dress in, and in this case the message I got was, “Take me now! I’m desperate for attention and sex!”

Doesn’t anyone remember the micro-minis their grandmothers wore in the 60’s? They wore shorter than this dress. Get a life! You can take the girl out of the 60s but not the 60s out of the girl. Still a Believer.

In the 60’s dresses like that were the norm. Heck, I wore one that short when I was pregnant! The skirt edge came to the tips of my fingers. Come on folks. It’s not that short. If she bent over from the waist, then, yes it’s too short.

Wow. Something like this would only happen in Kentucky. Truly and utterly stupid. Women walk around like that in So. CA all the time and nobody cares. If you don’t want your husband to look, start showing some skin yourself! People walk around topless in other countries! Why are Americans so uptight???

People are jealous of her. Espcially the fat white women that couldn’t fit their big toe in her dress/shirt. I agree the dress is short- but seriously- a dress code? She wasn’t hurting anybody! Who cares if husbands were looking at her! Sounds like their wives should try wearing shirts as dresses! This country is leaning closer to communism everyday! What is going to be controoled next?

If the shop that sold the clothing were my client, I would certainly be fighting with the landlord. The Mall can make a dress code but it is hypocritical to rent to stores that sell the clothing they want to ban from the Mall.

Why is it OK for these punk want to be gangsters to wear low rider pants showing their underwear and girls show their thongs and no one bans them? It definetly is a double standard. Sounds like a bunch of jealous women who are insecure about their husbands and wish they could wear the dress. GET OVER IT! You offend me when you put your fat a*s in one of those skin tight spandex pants. Or when you wear the midrift baring tshirts showing you fat rolls and stretch marks. I’m sorry, did you say it is your right to wear what you want? Enough said!

The females against this are likely jealous they can’t pull it off! She has the figure for it. Get up and go to the gym and you to can dress like a tramp!

The dress doesn’t look that short to me compared to some outfits I’ve seen… but then, I’m in LA where no clothes is the norm…. compared to here, she looks rather respectable!

I dont really see what the big deal is. Atleast shes wearing clothes. I know if some people could, they would go out in public naked. The dress covers what its supposed to cover, her private parts. Its not nearly as bad as seeing old people walking around the mall in a bathing suit top with shorts on. Now is it? No. And since when do the mall cops have time to tell everyone whats wrong with what they are wearing? Aren’t they supposed to be patroling the parking lot…

I think the girl looks fine! I’ve seen worse. Get real people! This is 2008 not 1908. If everyone would mind their own business the world would be a better place!!! Now, how many of these so called dresses has the store sold since this little deal? They probably can’t keep them in stock! Wake up America.

must have been a slow day for the mall security guards I’ve seen way shorter. I wonder who complained, one of the hundreds of over weight frumpy house wives way past their prime on their way to the ice cream store or restaurant.

It is called a shirt for a reason. You are supposed to wear pants with your shirt! It is trashy and degrading to women. I cant stand when girls think they can dress like sluts. I don’t even see how these girls can sit in these types of cloths.

Dress codes don’t serve a purpose if the store can sell them while censor them, Censoring items amounts to censoring Free Speech! America is too Old Fashioned and out of date if you ask me! Let the people weight what they want!
