'Dress' Gets Girl Booted

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

First, it was the case of a criminal prom dress. Now, a young woman is tossed from the mall for wearing a short dress. Funny thing is, she bought the little number at that very mall hours before, and the dress in question was actually a shirt. See the fashion crime and tell us--is she cute or should she get the boot?

Every year, girls' dresses seem to be getting shorter and shorter (as we get older and older). But when they're wearing shirts as dresses...hmmm. Kymberly Clem, 20, was thrown out of a Kentucky mall Saturday because the "dress" she was wearing was deemed too short by security guards. (Who knew they had such power?)

"The article of clothing that she is trying to pull off as a dress is actually a top--it was purchased at one of our retail stores," says Vickey Strunk, Richmond Mall manager. "We have a dress code here...if you are coming here to shop today, and you come in wearing a top with no pants, then we are going to ask you to leave."

Clem tells a different story: "I was walking through and 10 minutes after I was there, the security guard approached me, asked me to step aside, made me completely do a turn around while he stared me up and down and then asked me to leave because my outfit was too provocative and people's husbands was [sic] looking at me."

Men weren't the only ones staring.  One mother with small children complained because she says Klem's dress was so short you could see her thong.

The tank shirt, called a club shirt, was purchased at a Deb clothing stores in the mall. "We've seen this a million times," says a rep from Deb Stores. "Girls are always buying shirts as dresses--it depends really on your height, whether you can pull it off."

Because of the incident, the Richmond mall says they might have to update their dress code. "On our doors we clearly have posted 'no shoes, no shirt, no service,'" jokes Strunk. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to add 'no pants' to that."

Do you think the trashy looks sold in stores should be banned from malls?

What's up with wearing a shirt as a dress?! It's just one of the many fashion trends we wish would go away. Check out our photo gallery:

First of all, no ‘young lady’ would wear something like this. Hooker in training, maybe. I am sure no mother with a little girl would want to be behind this tramp when she bends down to pick something up - or reaches up to buy another ‘shirt’ off of a rack. Please. Common sense. Personally, here in town, we have started calling ‘girls’ to the carpet who dress like this. We have started calling out things like “how much for a BJ?” and “What do you charge for a WHOLE night?” And you know what? We do it even MORE when they are dragging a little kid by the hand! LOL Stupid ho’s should be called out…Britney, Lindsey, and Paris are NOT ‘ladies’.They are just “ladies of the night” in training…..

I agree that the dress was a little too much (or should I say less?) If I had children in the store with me I would not want them to see a woman’s bare bottom. Just as I don’t think we should be subjected to men’s underwear in the case of too-large or baggy pants. The mall has every right to tell her to leave.

As long as she isnt bending over in front of the married men to show off her thong, the dress is okay by me. I wouldnt wear it but I think her being thrown out of the mall is a bit overzealous of the “security” guards.

I’m 22 and my fashion sense in undeniable impeccable. This girl…just looks bad. The cut of the “dress” is totally wrong. It’s simply not cut as a dress, it’s a shirt (and not such a cute shirt, either!). I totally understand wanting to look alluring in certain atmospheres, but that was neither the time nor the outfit.

This outfit isn’t short enough to glimpse her thongs. For crying out we see boxers daily when males where those too big shorts. In the 70’s we wore minis, and hot pants. At leasst this teen ha the figure for it, not like the aged females trying to relive their youth. If a male is looking at a short dress, is he not looking at low cut tops, short shorts and girls in swimsuits? Get over it, men look at nice looking females and always have. Nothing wrong with “window shopping” just don’t go to the try on room”

I see no reason why she can’t go into a public place wearing that. I know I wouldn’t, but i’m not her. Some girls have to find out for themselves if what they wear is appropriate or not. If a store throws her out because they found her “outfit” offensive that’s fine, if I catch my husband staring at her, I’ll smack him. But would I not allow her in the mall, no way. And if I ran a store at the mall, I’d be going after the mall security for refusing my customers access to my shop when I pay rent. If the mall wants to restrict access based on appearance it must be fair all around, and have posted rules visible at every entrance.

DUDE the dress way short. Why would you buy a dress hours ago and come back with it on. Did you want to get caught? It’s weird.

The dress looks fine. Some are sounding pretty jealous possibly because they can’t pour their pounds and pounds into something like that and look good or decent. I realize that being beefy or heifer like is the current trend but not for everyone!

This is far from new. When I was in A.I.T. in Augusta, Georgia (Fort Gordon), I was at a local mall and I bought a shirt that said “Lick It, Slam It, Suck It!!” which as we all know is a tequila drinking shirt. Well, the security guards in the mall took me aside and said I could either turn it inside out and wear it, or take it off. Mind you, this was 1990 in the good ole USA. Pathetic.

THIS IS A MORALITY ISSUE. IT IS APPARENT THAT IF YOU DRESS TO ATTRACT THEN YOU ATTRACT WHAT YOU DRESS FOR.IF YOU DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO SEE YOUR ASS THEN DON’T EXPOSE IT.A 20 YR. OLD WITH THE BRAIN OF A 13 YR. OLD.WHERE ARE HER PARENTS,PARTICULARLY HER FATHER.

This is so rediculous. She’s not dressed any different then my sisters and I were in the late 60s, early 70s. She’s wearing a shirt for a dress, big deal. How come the security guards don’t go after the guys who walk around with their pants down around their knees and they shorts showing? If they can do it, why can’t we? People need to quit being such prudes.

There is nothing wrong with this dress. The people who are posting the negative comments are no doubt envious of this young lady because she can pull off this type of look. Lose some weight, exercise and you too can be thrown out of a mall, envy solved.

What’s with all the shirtless stuff. In that photo you can’t see her underwear and she’s 20 yrs. old bought it at that mall. She was not soliciting. Ban no shirts. There is a character in my neighborhood who walks shirtless all the time. I can’t stand it. If men can go topless so should women.

Ok, so the dress is too short and people could see her underwear. You never hear about the guys who where their pants around their lower pelvises with half their boxers or briefs hanging out being booted out of places. Why the double standard? If the guys can show their underwear, then the girls should be able to do the same. Either way its trashy if you ask me.

I am a 60 year old woman, which makes me a wearer of the mini skirts back in the day. My skirts were the same length as that shirt is. It wasnt a problem then. I taught school in skirts so short, I had to have the kids come up and write on the board because if I lifted my arms overhead, I showed everything. How stupid is that mall and the girl should have told them to bug off.

I don’t think she should be allowed out in public at all. Not because of how she dresses but due to the dumb things that comes out of this girls mouth.
