'Dress' Gets Girl Booted

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

First, it was the case of a criminal prom dress. Now, a young woman is tossed from the mall for wearing a short dress. Funny thing is, she bought the little number at that very mall hours before, and the dress in question was actually a shirt. See the fashion crime and tell us--is she cute or should she get the boot?

Every year, girls' dresses seem to be getting shorter and shorter (as we get older and older). But when they're wearing shirts as dresses...hmmm. Kymberly Clem, 20, was thrown out of a Kentucky mall Saturday because the "dress" she was wearing was deemed too short by security guards. (Who knew they had such power?)

"The article of clothing that she is trying to pull off as a dress is actually a top--it was purchased at one of our retail stores," says Vickey Strunk, Richmond Mall manager. "We have a dress code here...if you are coming here to shop today, and you come in wearing a top with no pants, then we are going to ask you to leave."

Clem tells a different story: "I was walking through and 10 minutes after I was there, the security guard approached me, asked me to step aside, made me completely do a turn around while he stared me up and down and then asked me to leave because my outfit was too provocative and people's husbands was [sic] looking at me."

Men weren't the only ones staring.  One mother with small children complained because she says Klem's dress was so short you could see her thong.

The tank shirt, called a club shirt, was purchased at a Deb clothing stores in the mall. "We've seen this a million times," says a rep from Deb Stores. "Girls are always buying shirts as dresses--it depends really on your height, whether you can pull it off."

Because of the incident, the Richmond mall says they might have to update their dress code. "On our doors we clearly have posted 'no shoes, no shirt, no service,'" jokes Strunk. "Well, I guess I'm going to have to add 'no pants' to that."

Do you think the trashy looks sold in stores should be banned from malls?

What's up with wearing a shirt as a dress?! It's just one of the many fashion trends we wish would go away. Check out our photo gallery:

Who kicked the topless, shirtless fellows out of the mall? Or would that be racial discrimination?

Wow, there are a lot of prudes on this board. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that dress or the length. There’s no way that dress is going to ride up far enough to see a thong. Seriously, the only segment of the population more puritanical than the people complaining about this dress are fundamentalist muslims who force their women to dress in head-to-toe garb and never go anywhere without a male escort, lest she be stoned to death. It’s just shocking that anyone in this country could be so backwards as to look at this beautiful young woman with disdain. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

The article said the “dress” was so short, you could see her THONG. Did they mean to say “THING”? Duds

People are looking at you because you look like trash not because they want you. We have a lady in our neighborhood that does “yard work” in her swimsuit starting as soon as the constuction workers show up BEFORE SUNRISE.She thinks shes cute but everyone even the constuction workers make fun of her behind her back. She thinks we all are looking because she is sexy but thats not it we look because she is there and it gives us someone to make fun of. I feel so bad for her kids and husband what a sucker.

Girls (and boys) let’s have some class. I don’t mean to be mean, but what happened to leaving a little to the imagination? It seems appropriate to quote a very wise man, Andre 3000, who said, “Sad, but one day our children will have to visit museums to see what a lady looks like.”

I think the mall had every right to kick her out. I would not want my daughter to see a woman dressed like that. And no one wants to see that, yuck. It is tacky and nasty. PUT ON SOME PANTS!

From what I can see in the video here, the dress appears fine to me. I didn’t notice thong underwear showing, but didn’t see the back.

Isn’t there more important things to worry about, She didn’t mind . So why should the mall, at least she paid for it..

If I walked into the same mall wearing the same “shirt” WITHOUT my pants, I’m sure I’d be heading to jail. I agree with mall security.

If the mall chooses to sell dresses like that there…then she should be able to wear the dress that she bought from them. Instead of focusing on all of the stupid things in the world…why don’t we try doing something about the real problems in this world instead. Child abuse, starving people, bad goverment, need I say more? Wake up world!

Interesting, on a different note. This young female, certainly not a lady, is offended by a logo saying, “I hate God” and then she wants to dress in a manner that offends God. Somewhat a mixed message here?

I quess women should not be permitted to wear a mini dress, but should have their heads, face and legs covered at all times-I guess we need an escort to go to the market- wait there are such laws - in third world countries were they still stone women for minor infractions.

I’m the father of three girls, all young adults now. If my daughters wore this dress, I would wonder what type of attention they were looking for. This dress makes her look like a hooker.
