Hurricane Gustav threatens New Orleans: Just three years after devastating hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the city is bracing for a category 3 storm--passing over western Cuba this morning. Mayor Ray Nagin said he expected to order citizens to evacuate, but many have already decided to leave. In a preemptive move, President Bush declared Louisiana an emergency area to give the federal government the power to implement disaster relief and rescues.

Missing girl's mom sent back to jail: Casey Anthony was arrested for check fraud just one week after she was released from jail for suspicion surrounding the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter. Investigators say the allegations of check fraud occurred before Casey was originally arrested and are not related to the June 16th disappearance of her daughter. Police are still searching for the missing toddler and have no solid leads.

6-year-old girl discovers abandoned baby: While playing hide-and-seek with her grandmother, the girl said she found a doll in the bushes, but when her grandmother then saw the motionless child, she knew it was an abandoned baby. The child, who investigators believe was only 1 to 2 hours old, was rushed to the hospital and treated for a fever and is expected to survive. Police do not know who the mother is, but say had it not been for the 6-year-old hero, the baby may have died.

College president forced to resign over beer guzzling photos: The president of an Iowa community college is out of a job this morning, after photos of him pouring beer into the mouth of a young, bikini-wearing girl during a July 4th party surfaced. While the incident occurred in Robert Paxton private life, the board believe it reflects poorly on the college and reportedly gave the outgoing president a $400,000 severance package.
