What you missed:

• South African amputee Natalie du Toit finished 16th place in the 10km marathon swim, just one minute behind gold medalist Larisa Ilchenko of Russia. The 24-year-old had lost her leg in a motorcycle accident and although she didn't place where she had hoped, it was an amazing feat for anyone with a disability. Her time of 2 hours, 49 minutes, 9 seconds put her ahead of nine other swimmers, including 16-year-old American Chloe Sutton. "I tried my best," du Toit said. "I'm not too happy with it, but I'll be back for 2012."

• Afghanistan won their first Olympic medal yesterday, when Rohullah Nikpai defeated world champion Juan Antonio Ramos of Spain and took the bronze in the men's 58-kilogram Taekwondo competition.

• Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won the 200 meters, his second gold medal of the Games. Bolt finished in 19.30 seconds to break Michael Johnson's 12-year-old world record, and said, "I just blew my mind and blew the world's mind." Bolt also beat American Shawn Crawford, the defending Olympic champion. He won the race the night before his 22nd birthday. "Happy Birthday" played over the loud speakers as he kicked off his gold shoes and wrapped the Jamaican flag around his shoulders.

• The U.S. men's volleyball team beat Serbia yesterday in the semifinals, three to two, and is set to play Russia in the semifinals on Friday. It's a huge feat, considering the men's team, ranked third in the world, was hoping to win its first Olympic gold medal since 1988. The closest it has come since then was a bronze in 1992.

Beijing Gossip:

• Michael Phelps and coach Bob Bowman are going into business together. Although the details are scarce, upon returning to their hometown of Baltimore, they will finalize details of their plan which will involve the North Baltimore Aquatic Club and its Meadowbrook Aquatic Center facilities. "Michael's vision is to increase swimming in the United States and the world," said Bowman. "I'm sure we'll be working with kids teaching them how to swim and maybe expanding our swim school operations." Bowman will also coach "a group of post-grads like Michael" which the U.S. Olympic Committee may support as an Olympic development project.

• Two elderly Chinese women were sentenced to a year of "re-education through labor" after they repeatedly sought a permit to demonstrate in one of the official Olympic protest areas. In an effort to protest what they said was inadequate compensation for the demolition of their homes in Beijing, Wu Dianyuan, 70, and Wang Xiuying, 77, were given sentences for "disturbing the public order." Authorities have detained half a dozen people after responding to a government announcement designating venues in three city parks as "protest zones" during the Olympics.
