Pet Owners Are Disgusting

Guest blogger MustHatePets says forget saving the animals--let's save our own kind first.

no_dog_owners_sq.jpg

I'm sick and tired of pets in this country being treated better than people. In fact, the country as a whole seems to be more worried about needy dogs than we are about needy kids. The average cost of a dog with a 14-year life-span averages from a little over $4000 to a little under $40,000! Sixty-three percent of households in the United States own a pet. Imagine if all that money went towards needy children?

Think about why we even have pets in the first place. It's a guarantee of unconditional love. These animals have essentially become slaves to humans over the years. Pet owners are even referred to as the animals' master. We like it and celebrate it and think it's grand. People leave their pets in small cages all day while they are at work. They feed them the same food every day and punish them when they beg for diversity in their diet. If they have an accident on a floor they were never supposed to be walking on in the first place, they get smacked. How is this OK?  It's not like pets are good for you.  A new study says that kids who grow up with pets are more likely to be snorers as adults, essentially proving that living with animals is unsanitary.

I also think zoos, circuses and rodeos should be illegal. How is it right to pull innocent animals from their natural habitat, constrict them in a small area with fake nature so that people can gawk at them and throw soda cups in their faces? No wonder animals attack their trainers and zoo attendees.

Just because it has been done for so many years doesn't make it right. Many people drive and walk by homeless people daily and don't do a thing or say a word to anyone about it. If they see a stray dog, they fly into action. It seems the world has gone mad and no one says anything about it.

Many argue that pets teach children responsibility and zoos teach kids about other species. We live in a time where we have plenty to read and watch to learn anything we want to know about animals. So my child will not have a pet, nor will she go to the zoo or the circus--and I'm confident she'll thank me for it later.

We should all agree. We are all animals by birthright. Thank you for the reminder.

why…dont you just try this..pick up a homeless person who smells and no teeth and sick and has neglected herself or himself and take them into your cozy home and get them on their feet a more makeover new life…then tell us how you made a diffrence…and then take a stray animal thats has been negleted abused starved full of ticks and fleas…and see your outcome…for sure you will learn a diffrence..

Wow, author is genuinely insane. Cukoo. Lock em up and throw away the key. I never had the biological clock start to tick. Never wanted kids. Don’t crave the “guaranteed love” that kids supposedly give. I dunno, I remember slamming the door at my mother and screaming at her how much I hated her. Yeah, that’s unconditional. I have animals, consider them my furkids, and will probably fall at the lowest of the low for this author because I have ferrets. They are so smart and so attuned to both myself and my close friends-it’s amazing. One of my ferrets I consider my “guard ferret”-every time he would nip at a potential boyfriend, I’d know not to date that person-he just knew they were bad news. Never nipped the good people in my life. Ever. No kid will ever do that for you.

When are dogs going to have the right to vote??? (I keep saying, “the way things are going”)…My “pet” peeves: doggie weddings, dogs dressed in clothes, doggie birthday parties, dogs as accessories. Pets should be treated as such, and no animal should be held at a higher standard than a human. Sue, I too was a terror from the ages 13-18,(my mother would agree) but, I am not a child hater! Do you believe all kids are demons? Who will continue your legacy? (To each his own, I am not judging you, just saying there are two sides…) Kids do more for you than ward off bad guys, like your ferrets! I take your post with a bit of humor, and hope you don’t really hate kids- why are you even on this site??? As for the author, zoos are educational, and many animal lovers work there. It is not so harsh! Circuses are entertaining, and have been for years. Peta would surely put and end to the circus if those animals were neglected, or treated cruelly. I don’t think you are nuts, author lady, you just went a little too far! I have both kids and pets, btw, and all are happy, healthy, and well behaved. Yay, me.

I agree that some people spend too much money on their pets. But as to having pets and caring for animals I only have one person to reference: St. Francis of Assisi. We are supposed to take care of the world around us. My big beef is when owner don’t take care as much as they should. For example, I don’t care for all the dogs running loose in my neighborhood. But it’s not the dogs fault, it’s the owners.

Hmmm..It seems to me that the writer is concerned about animals, and brings up some valid points. I myself used to hate zoos. The funny thing is, we traet our children the same. If my son pees on the floor he also gets in trouble.(lol) There are a lot of good reason to own a pet. Most dogs love human companionship and are lot more grateful than humans. It isn’t really safe to bring a homeless person home. People can defend themselves (get a job, buy food and shelter) animals have no choice and as long as we continue to take away their habitat it is our responsibility to replace that with a warm and loving home. I’m not saying the homeless don’t deserve that also, they are just taken care of in a different way. Many homeless people have pets themselves.

“Rather than giving up their pets perhaps the solution would be for the so called “parents” to stop having children they can’t afford….” wooooowwww… I really thought I had witnessed all the stupid things in my life already - until this point. I had to read this about 12 times just to even figure out what you were saying. I’m not a kid-lover nor an animal-lover but I am human and believe that human children need to be taken care of before animals - REGARDLESS of whether their mother should have actually had them or not. You just sat here and stated that children bred from a mother who can’t afford them shouldn’t be cared for - what the hell? Were you fed on a silver spoon to the point that you didn’t realize that you’re mother couldn’t actually afford you either?! If your Mom dropped you off on the side of the road would you want someone to take care of you or tell to you to buzz off because it’s your fault? I’m so confused at your logic…

Since when is snoring unsanitary? LOL. That is just absurd! And honestly, I don’t think your child will thank you for keeping her away from circus’ or zoos, especially when her friends are going.

Why can’t people treat thier animals to a good life (in their eyes), full of love, respect, good health care, and good nutritious food? Why is this so wrong with some people? If they have the means and time, what’s wrong with that. Who’s to say that they don’t contibute to childrens charities also. I am of the belief that if you can’t afford it…you don’t own/get/have it. I have two children and have always had pets of different varities, and several at one time. My husband and I could afford to do this. We would’ve loved to have had a couple more kids but….we felt we couldn’t afford them. Unfortunatly, some people decide to have children they can’t afford to clothe, educate, or feed. A few of these people feel that the government should be responsible for them and their children. Which in turn lables them as needy. Not to say that this is the only way that children are put in the needy catagory. There are several other ways that families become needy. But, if you don’t have the recources, why inflict a life of neediness and in some cases, despair on innocence? People who feel that the people who indulge thier pets should not judge. If they are looking to make a change in a needy familie’s life, should do so themselves by donating more money and time to the effort they feel so strongly about.

“You’ve got way to much time on your hands. And. You’re nuts.” I concur. Ridiculous as it may seem to you put so much effort/money into the betterment of animal treatment, pets reduce stress, help to teach our kids disciple and responsibility, and increase the increase the years on our lives. Like it or not, our pets are considered family members and get treated as such. Also, get a life. Seriously. There are far more important things in this world to be upset about or offended by.

Wow, Imagine all those millions of people being wrong for soooo many decades. Your children will NOT thank you for anything. Depriving a child of the experience of a pet, is just a lame excuse for your laziness. Pets give kids unconditional love. My children have a pet dog and continually beg for another; insisting on handling the further responsiblity. You don’t want a pet, fine. But to have the nerve to assume the world should agree with you…WOW what an idiot you are.

Um first of all I want to respond to Dan, because I didn’t see any other responses… Why would you come on a MOTHER’S Site and make rude comments about mothers? Just because this ONE person did not know what they were talking about does not mean EVERYONE on this site is illogical! Does YOUR mother or your wife know you talk about mothers this way? Because I’m sure they would NOT appreciate it! How would you like it if we came and bashed you? You obviously are either not a parent, or a bad one if you are, or you would know how much a mother does. You should know, anyways, as you had one yourself. Children and teenagers are the only RATIONAL people who do not appreciate their mothers, except those who were ABUSED by their mothers.

I love my dogs and they are a part of my family. If I spend too much money on them it’s not really anyone elses business or concern. This article is all around lame!

I agree with the 3rd poster (Shocked). There wouldn’t be an abundance of needy kids if people would stop having them when they can’t take care of them. Even in 3rd world countries, the US govt has been supplying them with condoms, education about abstinence and other means to stop all the baby-making! I do also think though that some pet owners should be more responsible and get their pets “fixed” and microchipped so they can be returned if lost and not just taken to the pound. I believe that if you are responsible and vaccinate your dog and bathe them, feed them, and such that there is absolutley nothing wrong with having a dog. I do have one request…please stop dressing up your dogs, people! :)

I love my kids and I love my dogs. There is nothing, within reason, that I wouldn’t do for any of them. My husband and I worked hard in order to give our kids and our pets a good life. Kids went to private schools, dogs to obedience school. I pay in taxes to help out other people’s kids, which I know is necessary. I find it offensive that the worst predator on the planet is the human. What other species kills for fun?

HOW COULD YOU? Both Animals and Humans should be treated equally and as for zoos, why wouldn’t they just let the animals stay in their natural habitats and people will only work for admissioning all costumers and being tourguides but not zoo keepers. And i love my dog and i am not a snorer, my mom grew up taking care of her dogs but she ain’t no snorer and so does my dead grandfather. PETS ARE PART OF YOUR FAMILY and face it if you hate animals, then you hate God too, God created these animals, not mad scientists. You are unresponsible because you don’t know how to care for them and YOU ARE THE SNORER, nice try but this is the real truth and its for your own good.

I totally agree with her. A police officer leaves a dog to die in the car and people are writing letters to the government to convict him. A person leaves a baby in the car to die and no one cares about prosecuting. Something is seriously wrong with this country and it seems people nowadays care more about animals than they do about children, child abuse, and neglect as opposed to animal being abused. I don’t see any rally’s not to abuse children. It’s sad when animals are valued more than human beings. but so long as their are people advocating these groups, raising money for animal shelters and oblivious to the need of foster care or the problem in our social services program to remove children from harmful situations, nothing they do is helping us become a better society.

pets cause snoring… and apples cause skin disease right? I dont think the writer actually knows how good pets are for people psychologically and in other ways. Think of service dogs, elderly folks who’s spouses and kids are gone? Think of how pets prepare children for future responsibilities such as taking care of their own children in the future? Seriously this article is a piece of crap.

Who is the author to say I should NOT have pets and instead pay my money to support children others have forced upon society? This unspoken fundamental “human right to breed” no matter the parents’ financial condition is what causes the majority of problems for children and society-at-large in this world. Do NOT place that blame on those of us who choose to have pet animals.
