Momlogic's Winter: When I first saw the trailer for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, I screamed for all of 10 minutes.

A sequel to the movie that makes me cry no matter how many times I have seen it? I will be in the theater, front row, the first day it comes out, I thought. I suppose this movie has a particular significance for me because I have been blessed with some of the most amazing friends a woman could ask for, and I first saw the tween-friendly film with them. I was eager to catch up with Lena, Bridget, Tibby and Carmen for what die-hard fans say is the last film in the series. What's going on with Lena's new hot love? Tibby actually got a man? And Carmen (the definitely not ugly Ugly Betty) looks like she is taking center stage in a play. Bring on the organic munchies; I was ready.

The movie didn't disappoint. Aside from breathtaking views of Santorini, Greece (which made me want to call my travel agent when I got home), watching the girls in those funny college years where finding yourself is the order of the day gave me flashbacks. Watching Carmen (the writer and narrator) was like watching myself on screen as she explored being the center of attention by playing "Perdita" in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. No, I am definitely not an actress, but I probably loathe being the center of attention as much as her character did. Which is why I chose to be in print rather than broadcast journalism. That's a different story.

Devoted fan that I am, I must say that I did like the first movie a teensie bit better. It is difficult to weave together four different subplots going on at the same time -- and I felt that the first film was able to pull it off more smoothly. However, maybe the disharmony I sensed within the film's script was indicative of the distance the girls felt from each other. Who knows?

In the first film, Carmen said that the four friends together made one complete person -- one wild, one writer, one shy and one rebel. And I know I would definitely be incomplete without my girls. Movies like these remind me of the importance of friends. It can be so easy to get caught up in  the daily rush -- traffic, fatigue, work, fatigue, work (did I say that twice?) -- that "quality" time with friends can consist of a drive-by plate of pasta for 10 minutes as we talk about how tired we are. The Sisterhood movies tell me that no matter where I am or what I am doing, friends and family come first. With a good friend and a chai latte, all is right with the world.
