Blue State Mom vs. Red State Mom

Two mothers duke it out over Sarah Palin.

Guest blogger Blue State Mom feels these facts about the VP candidate Sarah Palin should scare us out of voting for McCain. But Red State Mom says her points are nothing but B.S. that have been blown out of proportion by the media. What do you think?

Guest blogger Blue State Mom lists 10 things she hates about Sarah Palin, and Red State Mom responds...

blue state mom democratic logo red state mom republican logo
1. She only opposed "Bridge to Nowhere" after the plan was publicly blasted. The project called for the construction of an almost $400 million bridge to an island populated by 50 people that already had an airport. She even modeled its T-shirt. Shut up already about the "Bridge to Nowhere"!  Republican Sen. Ted Stevens said she was very critical of the "Bridge to Nowhere" at the time. In her convention speech, Palin said, "I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere."
2. She got her first passport in 2006. She's only traveled to four countries. Although people tout Alaska's close proximity to Russia as a notch in her belt for her foreign affairs experience, she has never been there. Oh--and one of the four countries was Ireland. She only stopped there so her plane could re-fuel. Really. Who cares if she only got her passport in 2006? I have never been out of the country, but I consider myself cultured nonetheless. Not everyone can afford to go to Europe or Asia, but it doesn't mean we're not smart people who know about the world.
3. When she was elected mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she asked the city librarian to ban books. Click here to see the alleged list. When she refused, Palin sent her a termination letter citing her lack of mayoral support as the cause. The library then sent her back a copy of the Constitution.
Palin asked the city librarian to ban books? Good! There are certain books, like ones with inappropriate language, that should not be on library shelves for any child to pick up and peruse. She didn't want them burned, she just wanted them banned. There's a difference.
4. She supports an abstinence-until-marriage sexual education program. She only thinks contraception should be discussed in regards to its failings. No word yet on how her now pregnant 17-year-old daughter is clearly failing to learn about abstinence. Abstinence-only education works! It prevents teens from getting HIV or AIDS, and teaches morality. True, her daughter is pregnant, but no one is perfect. At least her daughter is having the baby, not aborting it. I commend that choice.
5. When her mother-in-law ran for the mayor of Wasilla after Palin was elected governor, she didn't endorse her. It's because she was pro-choice. Family values, here we come! Her MIL isn't endorsing Sarah Palin, either. She recently said, "I'm not sure what [Palin] brings to the ticket other than she's a woman and a conservative." What family loyalty! Family values, indeed.

Go to Page TWO for five more things Blue State Mom hates about Sarah Palin ... and what Red State Mom has to say about that. Who's right in this fight?

This is from a pastor. Not many would have the guts to say this. What’s your view? http://www.youtube.com/v/U4TZspqlOs&hl=en&fs=1

No books were banned by Sarah Palin - that much is true. I don’t think anyone thought that LIST was a list of banned books - even in the original email from Anne K, it was clear that Sarah asked about censoring books not once but at least twice, the second time witnessed by a couple of folks. Whether books were banned or not doesn’t matter to me. THE FACT SHE BROUGHT IT UP does. I’m of the belief that banning books is wrong, and fascist, and bad for democracy, and counter to our constitution. If you don’t want your child to have a book, then don’t let them check it out. Believe me, you don’t want ME deciding what your kids can read, and I sure as heck don’t want you deciding for me. So much I’ve read about this woman leads me to believe that she is a religious extremist. From her fear of cats to asking about banning books, to strong arming people that don’t agree with her. UG, that’s just not right. To me, that is dangerous.

I saw the topic in my email from momlogic and thought here we go again…I’m not even talking about politics… I’m talking (writing) about momlogic pitting women against each other all the time it seems. What is your problem, I’m about ready to unsubscribe! It seems as if you want to further stereotypes of women (catty, bitter, gossipy, celebrity & stuff oriented) instead of using logic! (My 2 cents)

Very interesting… I noticed when pressing the agree button on a post that favors Palin or McCain the count stays the same, at first I thought it was just a glitch but after several stayed the same I knew the results were not correct…humm bet it would increase if it was for Obama.

It’s sad that the Liberals have attcked the Conservatives in such a hateful brutal manner this year. At the NRC, the tree hugging, peace loving idiots (I use this term because there is no other term for them)went on a rampage, hurting police officers, damaging cars and properties, then throwing bleach on delegates whom were being interviewed? The worst part is, they seem to hate Sarah Palins daughter because she chose life and not abortion. There are too many forms of birth control these days for unwanted pregnancies to occur…..

AH CK1 if your talking about the post “VA mom, you wrote “It’s a shame that CK1, like the rest of the GOP, has to resort to lies to get ahead in this election.” How has CK1 resorted to lies? ” Maybe you should reread it cause I was asking VA mom how she can say, how you were telling lies! I wanted to see if she can back up her “facts”!!!!!

To: say no to independant thought If you an independant thought you would research and know: 1. No books were banned. 2.That the list that is put out as THE LIST of books is from The Florida Institute of Technology library Web page which represents the list as “Books banned at one time or another in the United States”

To answer Anonymous’ and CK1’s question about why I called CK1 and the GOP liars. Here’s a link to and the direct quote from the interview with Obama. Unlike what CK1 said: “I’m sure it doesn’t even matter to you that in an interview heard yesterday Barack Obama announced that he is of the Muslim faith.” Obama said no such thing. As usual, there’s a lot of twisting and turning of words and phrases to suit their own needs. You can call it spin…I call it lies. But you decide. What I read from this is that Obama is saying that John McCain has not said that Obama is of the Muslim faith…but at best I think it’s just unclear because they’re talking all over each other and getting flustered. Certainly not the declaration of Muslim faith CK1 and the GOP purports it to be: “STEPHANOPOULOS: But John McCain said the same thing about questioning your faith. OBAMA: And what was the first thing the McCain’s campaign went out and did? They said, look, these liberal blogs that support Obama are out there attacking Governor Palin. Let’s not play games. What I was suggesting — you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you’re absolutely right that that has not come… STEPHANOPOULOS: Christian faith. OBAMA: … my Christian faith. Well, what I’m saying is that he hasn’t suggested… STEPHANOPOULOS: Has connections, right. OBAMA: … that I’m a Muslim. And I think that his campaign’s upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I’m not who I say I am when it comes to my faith — something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time.” http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002944990

Sarah Palin is an opportunistic politician. She had no clue about reaching the VP office and now John McCain pulls her out of his hat because Obama did not choose Hillary and figured that would do the trick. Well she is no Hillary. She might be a Governor of Alaska but we still don’t have a clue what the issues and changes are going to be. Same old Same old. If John McCain got into office all he would do is flip the script. He is using her and she is allowing this to happen. He did not even know this women and neither do we.

Hey CK1. Today John McCain ran an ad that is a complete lie about Obama and sex education. Check that on your factchecker. How can you vote for someone who already is lying???? Oh, thats right, he is a Republican and it doesn’t count, because why? Oh yea, he is a Republican. He knows for a fact that is lie and he still “approved this message.”!! Obama is not Muslim. He is a practicing Christian. Fact. Wake up America. This is one chance after eight years to get the lying Republican adminstration out of office. Give them 4 years to regroup and hopefully get back to the respectable party they used to be.

Actually if McCain and Palin get into office it’s a chance to get rid of ALL the corrupt, lying politicians in Washington. Democrat or Republican! They will finally be held accountable. I want a NEW Congress that listens to the people rather than sitting on their butts and filling their pockets with our money. I won’t vote for a candidate who will raise taxes. I am sick of the government stealing my hard earned money. As far as the whole campaign, It’s ridiculous! I’m sick of all of it! I just want to hear what the parties are going to do and stop hearing the gossip on CNN and the rest of the biased media channels. By listening to the media you would think it was Palin Vs. Obama. HMMMM…I thought this was McCain Vs. Obama. It’s just like the media to try to destroy a woman candidate. And the fact that others are taking part in it is disgusting. As far as the comment made about Obama being a Muslim. Honestly that’s irrelevant whether he is or not. It wouldn’t change the fact that if you compare him to McCain, Obama does not have the experience that McCain has nor the service. I am sure one day in the future he will learn alot and be ready to run again but right now I honestly don’t think he is ready for the Presidency. That’s my honest opinion. I am sure others have their own and that’s great, just try to make a point without slandering the candidates.

Uhhhh CK1. You were the first comment on this subject and you are the one making a big deal saying Obama is muslim. Why did you bring it up in the first place if now you say it is irrelevant? Obama is a Christian just like McCain. The McCain campaign really lost me. First with the unknown mother of an infant Palin. Then the $300,000 outfit Cindy McCain wore to the Republican convention!?! America is at war and we have lost thousands of our citizens. Besides that, most people are having a tremendous struggle just making ends meet. What a slap in the face.

What in the heck are you talking about? The unknown mother of an infant Palin? Are you referring to Sarah Palin’s son with down syndrome? Go to factcheck.org so you can get that RUMOR off your mind. Who cares how much money Cindy McCain’s clothes cost? She is a humanitarian. How could you possibly say one bad thing about her? You obviously don’t know her story at all. She has devoted her life to helping people in poor countries. What does she have to do with the Presidency anyway? She’s not running? And yes, I did make a comment about Obama saying he was muslim on an interview that I watched on TV. I have come to realize that, to me, it really does not matter if he is a muslim OR a Christian. That is NOT why I am not voting for him. That is why I said it is irrelevant to me because I have other more important reasons why I won’t be voting for him. IN MY OPINION, he is not as experienced as John McCain. I am a conservative and Barack Obama does not have the same views that I do.

LOL- I admit that sentence didnt make sense once I read it back. Palin was an unknown to most Americans. I have been paying attention and I know that she is the mother of Trig. I still cant imagine why she is choosing such a demanding job when she should be hands on with her kids. There is simply not enough time in the day to do both. Children come first in my book. Her career could wait. In fact she already has a career. Couldnt that be enough?

Rachel Sarah Palin has proven that she can take care of her family and have a career. So I don’t see your point. Many women are capable of doing both. Many women choose to do both. Why should she just have to settle for being Governor? Because she is a woman? There are men in office that don’t have to settle. Nobody questions there ability to be a good parent, do they? Seems to me she has plenty of good support at home. She has been married for 20 years for good reason. They have a strong family unit. Her husband has stuck by her through everything and by looking at him he seems very proud of his wife. He stands by her side. Just like a wife does with her husband. You know, like Cindy stands by John McCain. There shouldn’t be a double standard here. Men are very capable of raising children. My husband took care of our daughter while I worked. He went to school at night to get into the medical field. He did a fantastic job and told me it helped him truly respect women for the hard job that they do. He got alot of gratification from being able to take care of his daughter. He literally loved it. I have a single 22 year old son raising his 1 year old daughter. He works and takes care of her and does a great job. Men are capable, too, ladies. Well, to some this up. Sarah Palin is a prime example of what a woman can accomplish and we should respect her rather than try to find fault in her.

CK- Exactly how has she “proven” she can take care of her family and have her demanding career? I think the teenage pregnancy proves that already something slipped through the cracks. Yes, everyone says teenagers have sex etc etc. Not all do though!!!And what if Bristol had more adult supervision and guidance and talks, maybe her and her mother would be picking out prom dresses instead of baby clothes!! What if the time she spent traveling and meetings and at her desk she was investing time in her own children???? And now a special needs 4 month old infant??? Sorry, there is no proof to me yet that she can do both. If you havent already read it… pick up Jenny McCarthys book Louder Than Words which is about her son with autism. Now that is a great example of proof of a great mom.

Rachel Who are you to judge? Do you have teenagers? I do. I have four children and two grandchildren. I also have a sister and a neice with special needs. I understand the care they require, trust me. I am also from a LARGE family that sticks together and helps each other. We all have alot of support. I really find it insulting that women judge other women especially when they’ve never walked in their shoes. Like I said, “Who are you to judge?” You, Rachel are part of a group of people who work hard to spread hatred and judgment on others. You are like a plague. Fortunetly, there are women who understand Sarah Palin’s purpose in serving the people. She, like us, wants to make a better America for everyone. She fights corruption and doesn’t care if it from the Democratic party or the Republican party. She is not biased but wants to create a government that can work together for the people. You are so busy with your slandering and spreading hatred that you have no idea who this woman is. Thankfully, you and other people like you have brought together the Republican party. People like you are your own worst enemy and your slander will lead to the demise of your party.
