Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, a fun holiday started by two men in 1995. John Baur and Mark Summers were playing a game of racquetball, when one of them yelled "Arrr!" in a cry of pain, according to the holiday's official website talklikeapirate.com. Thus, the day was born. The friends celebrated the holiday for seven years before emailing their friend Dave Barry, a popular humor columnist. In 2002, Barry wrote an article about the celebration and its popularity grew from there. Don't worry, there are plenty of websites that can help you brush up your pirate-speak! Walk the plank, mateys!
