Researchers discovered a possible link between popular antidepressants and male infertility. A Cornell Medical Center team gave 35 healthy men selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), sold as Seroxat or Paxil, over a five week period before re-examining their sperm. Shocking results showed that the average proportion of fragmented DNA in the sperm rose from 13.8 percent to 30.3 percent! A spokeswoman for GlaxoSmithKline, one of the companies selling these medications, responded, "This study was not conducted by GSK, and therefore we are currently reviewing the investigators' findings. We take seriously our responsibility to ensure our medicines are used safely."
