Carol Alt: Don't Call Me a Cougar Page 3

Continued: Carol Alt: Don't Call Me A Cougar Page 2

ML: What was it like to work with Donald Trump on Celebrity Apprentice?
CA: Many people think of Donald as arrogant. I think that's a character he creates. The boardroom meetings are between three and five hours. He sat there and was human and generous and talked to us. He never once complained, he was never diva-ish or arrogant. I learned so much from him. He was unbelievably smart and funny and amazing with us. And, he was unbelievably humble. He understands how hard it is to get to anywhere. He was kind and complimentary with every firing. It was professional and moved like a machine.

ML: What do you think of the fact that you are known as a 'cougar'?
CA: I hate that word, 'cougar.'  It makes me feel older. Why women would allow themselves to be called cougars blows me away. I just think women are women--old, young, in between. My boyfriend never said anything about my age. We are equal in every manner. We talk about everything. I never feel older. We've been together nine years. They make women seem older by using this word. When I met him, I was 38. I had no idea he was 25. He looked me up and knew how old I was. He said I looked better than most women who were younger than me.

ML: You only eat raw food. What exactly is your diet?
CA: You can go to Whole Foods. You can say, "I don't eat cheese because it's fattening. May I try your un-pasteurized?" I also use cold-pressed olive oil. EVERYTHING I eat, I can buy in Whole Foods, health food stores, and online. It's more like the process. I eat everything the least cooked possible. Because of what I eat, my skin is better. I eat like a horse. Instead of peanut butter, you buy almond butter.

ML: It sounds expensive.
CA: The initial spending is more, but you spend less on doctors, etc. I used to live on Afrin because of sinus infections--and I took a lot of Sudafed. I used NyQuil to fall asleep and took aspirin twice a week. Now I'm 47. I haven't had an aspirin in 12 years. From the moment I started eating raw, I stopped needing any of it. I'm in better shape, my body is better, and I'm able to keep up with my boyfriend who is 13 years younger and a professional athlete.

This Year's Model is the first in a series about the cutthroat world of fashion and fame. Alt's other projects include an online model search and her books about raw eating: Eating In The Raw and The Raw At 50
