Yum?! Edible Cleaning Products

Who hasn't had that moment of panic -- you see your little one holding an open bottle of household cleaner -- with their tiny fingers shoved inside their mouth. Well, you can breathe now. Some cleaning products are actually safe to eat!

Thanks to two Tampa moms who care about the environment as much as they care about kids, you can now buy edible household cleaners called Baby Girl Products. All products are free of toxic chemicals and fumes -- and they smell fantastic and use all organic ingredients.

Toxic chemicals in household cleaners are three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air, and sadly, cancer is now the number one cause of death in children.

Don't panic, moms. Here are five things Baby Girl Products owner Sarapage Bauguss says you should be aware of before purchasing any household cleaners.

1. Always read the ingredients! If the container doesn't label ingredients on their packaging, check the website.

2. Make sure that all ingredients are listed, not just the active ones. Ever wonder when it says "Other ingredients 99.70%?" Us too!

3. Avoid cleaners marked "danger" or "poison." Also look for other hazards such as "may cause burns" or "corrosive."

4. Keep in mind the word "non-toxic" has no legal definition, so you don't know what it truly means.

5. If you don't know what an ingredient is, research it before purchasing it. It may be extremely harmful.

That organic stuff may be good for the environment, but it doesn’t work as well. I’ve tried organic soaps, organic cleaners, organic shampoo. None of it works as well. You have to re do it at least twice. Not worth the time or effort.

I absolutely love these products! I was horrified recently when I read an article about the extremely dangerous chemicals we use everyday on our homes and our bodies. I searched online and found this company- I’ve tried the dishsoap, the glass cleaner, the multipurpose and the wood cleaner- everything works great and nothing gives you a headache like all the things I threw out from under my sink. I disagree with the previous poster, Natalie- these products are just as effective if not more so than commercial, toxic products. I also think Natalie should get her priorities straight- what exactly is not worth your time and effort- saving the environment or saving children from developmental disorders?

I have been on a quest to find anything that can help me turn my new chemically-laden apartment into something good for my 6 month old son. Plus, he’s now becoming more mobile and all I can think of is my little boy poisoning himself sick or even dead with some of the cleaning products out there. You have to be careful, though, so many things that are touted as being “biodegradable” are still poisonous for our children. As for them not working as good… I think they work fine, and if they don’t meet our standards, maybe we should be reevaluating what’s important to us.
