Dads Don't Make Good Moms

Guest Blogger Mom DePlume: My husband is a good father--but not without my help.

ricky-martin
Last night my husband read our 2-year-old daughter her bedtime story and then he put her to bed. Not bad daddy behavior, right? Wrong.

The next morning, at 6 a.m., when I heard our human alarm clock blaring  "Moooommmmmy,"  I found her in her crib, soaking wet and wearing her shorts and shirt from the day before. Turns out, before sending our toddler off to "Dozy Land," dad didn't make sure she had on a fresh diaper before tenderly placing her in bed in her street clothes. I saw the fresh jammies, right where I had left them on her nightstand. I was just a tad pissed.

So, imagine my amusement while reading an article in the New York Times--that very morning--that said single men answering their "biological clocks" are becoming fathers by surrogate or adoption more than ever.  After I got over the temptation to sop up my baby's pee-soaked crib with the newspaper, I read on...

Seems the most famous single dad to date is crooner Ricky Martin, now the father of twins born via surrogate.   According to his publicist, Ricky intends to be the sole parent. On the positive side, Mr. Martin will be able to teach his twins to belt out Livin' La Vida Loca--but he'll also be sending them out in freezing cold weather wearing flip-flops and serving them graham crackers for dinner. Ha! Ha! Isn't Daddy funny?

Hey, it's not just me saying dads don't always have the most--dare I say?--maternal instincts. A new study says single dads are much less likely to keep up with kids' regular checkups. Oh, and they suck at breastfeeding.

I'm sure there are dads out there that would make great single dads--I've just haven't met any. Am I just feeding into the old bumbling father stereotype? Yes. And you know why? Because:

NEWS FLASH: Some stereotypes are true.

Just ask my daughter--who slept in her clothes last night.

What a stupid and sexist thing to say about a growing number of Men in this country. It sounds like you want to be the only one who can “properly” care for the child, which is your own insecurities playing out on the family. Get a life!

You women are nuts! Men will never make better moms then women! Anyone who says otherwise are idiots! I was raised by my dad because my mom died when I was a baby, and there are soooo mant things that moms need to do that men just will never be able to do! Yes there might be a few men out there that do well with children, but putting them to bed with dirty diapers and dirty clothes is just the icing on the cake that will lead to bigger problems that cant be washed away! Its disgusting, and she couldve gotten sick! That obviously escaped all your thoughts! Thats the big picture! If he cant even remember to change her diaper or put on clothes that she hasnt been running around in all day, then theres going to be alot of things(big things) that hes going to forget to do too! Does he not wipe his butt when hes done pooping? Cause its kinda the same thing. You should take better care of your children then you do of yourself, but men just wont do it! They care about the game and hot chicks! If he cant even put his daughter to bed without messing that up, then he needs ALOT more practice and a watchful eye to look over his mistakes for him! Just like you do with kids(isnt that ironic?!)

My father: cooked, did laundry, grew a garden, cleaned, scrubbed the basements, signed our permission slips, remembered when to pick us up from school and reminded our mother, helped us with our homework, asked us if we had our assignments done, knew all of our friends’ names and their parents, watched movies with us and took us places, and worked 12 hour shifts at a physically strenuous job. My parents are now divorced so he does all of this alone, but even before they were divorced, he did all of that alone. My mom was nowhere near as good at doing these things. Obviously I am just one person but just wanted to throw it out there that not all men are stupid.
