Lawmaker: Sterilizing Poor Women Will Fight Crime

Monday, September 29, 2008

A Louisiana State Rep says sterilizing poor women is the key to ending crime.

louisianna state money given to pregnant woman

Louisiana State Rep John LaBruzzo, worried about the skyrocketing cost of welfare in his state, has devised a plan to pay low income women $1000 to get their tubes tied.

LaBruzzo says people receiving government aid such as food stamps are reproducing at a faster rate than more affluent, better-educated people, so he wants to pay women to stop reproducing. The lawmaker's plan will also cover other types of birth control, including vasectomies for men and tax incentives encouraging rich college graduates to have more children.

In response to critics who call the idea racist, sexist, and unethical, LaBruzzo says more whites are on welfare in Louisiana than other ethnic groups and that the plan would be completely voluntary. He says his sterilization program will provide poor people better opportunities to avoid welfare, simply because they would have fewer children to feed.

The plan would not, however, include abortion. LaBruzzo says he opposes abortion and would not support paying women to terminate their pregnancies.

Tell us --- would you support a plan to prevent the poor and uneducated from reproducing?

Somewhere, down near the 7th circle of hell, Adolf Hitler is saying, “you see, I’m not the only one who thought that would work!” This guy’s a bozo. Why would you go so far as offering up such a ridiculous idea? Do you know how quickly this could turn into a racial issue/human rights issue/moral issue? Step away from the podium!

I agree with ANON. This is a horrible ethical situation just waiting to implode! If he has all that money to pay….why can’t he put it into REAL solutions, like creating more jobs and putting time limits on welfare?

Well, my mother told me last week we have to keep abortion legal because it saves so much money, what with babies not born to welfare moms. Both assertions are similar in that they fail to take into their arguments the overall welfare of “the poor.”

It’s not just poor people that commit crimes, middle class, and rich people do, too. This is so stupid!!!!

I’m pretty sure some mother in California had already tried the same thing. I think it was aimed at drug abusers a she was the adopted mother of crack addicted babies.

I’d sterilise John LaBruzzo, problem solved, people with that level of nonsense in their brains should not be allowed to reproduce.
