Jealousy, Not Curiosity, Killed the Cat
Thursday, September 18, 2008
A 205-pound man bludgenons a 7 1/2-pound cat and calls it self-defense. Huh?
The "Cat Killer" trail begins today, and the Manhattan D.A. is pulling no punches, referring to the man who bludgeoned his girlfriend's cat as "an angry, jealous, drunken bully." Joseph Petcka, a 205-pound former baseball player turned actor, is accused of animal cruelty after he brutally beat an 8-pound domestic (declawed!) tabby named Norman. Petcka's former girlfriend, Lisa Altobelli, testified that he once said in a drunken stupor, "You love Norman more than me."
Some women do get obsessively attached to their cats, possibly because they are about the same size as a newborn baby -- like a furry infant with whiskers -- oh, and all that unconditional love. If you're the jealous type, we could actually see succumbing to the green-eyed monster if your partner is obsessed with a pet -- but, um, stopping short of murder.
Because of the way Americans lavish attention on animals, the line is constantly being blurred between animal and human. According to a national survey, 63% of pet owners say "I love you" at least once daily to their pets. Yikes. Some of us can't remember the last time we said that to our husbands.

Yes I’ve been jealous of my dog. My husband cuddles with him and kisses him all the time. I’ve never wanted to kill the dog. but I’ve thought of killing my husband :)

Your title “Jealousy, Not Curiosity, Killed the Cat” is insensitive. The cat had nothing to do with this Insecure, Violent LOSER Petcka ! I hope he gets the MAX, 2 years. He will be somebody’s b*tch the 1st day in Prison and have something up his A$$ in no time !!

Yes indeedy, I can see where a 200 pound athlete can feel anger and fear toward a seven and a half pound tabby. They are extremely dangerous creatures and have torn humans to shreds and eaten them in the past. Or was that a lion? Hmmmmmmm. Want to try kicking one of them, hero?

My sentiments exactly! Why not give the loser a taste of his own medicine. To think that he beat a completely defenseless cat to death is nothing short of appalling!!! The Animal Rights people should seek him out and beat him senseless and see what he thinks??? I hope justice prevails in this case as probation is too good for him. Let him sit in a cubical for a couple of years and see if he still feels like being a “bully” to God’s creatures ever again. I wouldn’t be surprised to find him “black” listed in Hollywood and SAG. They are big on Animal Rights. You should be ashamed of yourself Joe… Norman was better than you ever hope to be!!!

As a cat owner and animal lover, I hope this man gets the maximum allowed for a prison sentence. Animals have no voice, they must depend on humans to speak for them. I feel bad for the woman who owned Norman, she must be heartbroken.
