Mismatched Kids' Clothing -- Fashion Do or Don't?

Sunday, September 21, 2008
filed under: kid logic

This year, back to school clothing trends cater to your child's need to express themselves with color and texture. Finally, moms won't have to feel the embarrassment of their child's desire to wear polka dots with plaid pants, because it's IN!

Kids are gracing the runways with trendy mismatched clothing that won't put a dent in your pocketbook. The best thing about this trend is that you're actually giving your child the freedom to express themselves in a way that would have humiliated you a year ago! And, it's an affordable trend that can be concocted right at home -- with the clothes your child already has hanging in the closet.

If this is just too edgy for you and your princess, you can always bring home a Polly Pocket Pop N' Swap. This is nonstop fun for your fashion-forward girl. She can learn to express herself and, at the same time, have fun mismatching the clothes for these miniature dolls. And Polly Pocket Pop N' Swap is affordable for moms -- it's under 20 bucks!

Together with Polly Pocket Pocket Pop N' Swap, momlogic is conducting a survey on girls and self-expression. Click to take our fashion-forward survey. The first 50 moms to take the survey will win a Polly Pocket Sample for their daughter!

Well, this certainly makes me feel a bit better about the shockingly pink Hannah Montana socks my daughter paired with the very deep red High School Musical shirt this morning before school. No wait, it doesn’t make me feel better at all. Mismatched is IN? Yuck!!

My daughter constantly wears a princess outfit and always wants to wear it to school! I don’t let her but I do encourage her to express herself with fashion choices that I pre-select! I actually bought her a Pop n swap kit a couple of weeks ago and she loves it.

I let her wear whatever inside but she knows if we are leaving we have to change. My son on the other hand always wants to wear her princess outfits and her pj’s. Again anything goes inside. Why not, they’ll get to an age where they cannot get away with soon enough.

I’m not a big fan of the whole mis-matched fashion! But sometimes, you just can’t fight with a 3 year old!

Took the survey! I guess I’m lucky so far, my almost 3 year old daughter doesn’t ask to pick her own clothes. In fact I could only find one photo of her in anything unusual! I’ll post it on the Flickr group.

i think it is cute when kids dress themselves and pick out their clothes. Dress up is a fun game that doesnt involve paint or tiny leggo pieces, plus its a classic.

My Daugters choices tend to run to the Purple side anything Purple any shade any pattern its all fair game… I was very obsesive about her clothes until she started school now its easier to just let her have her way so we can get out the door in the morning.

My daughter absolutely loves to dress herself, paint her finger nails (along with mommies). I think it is hysterical. She has painted my nails and people will comment at work and I just smile and tell them my little girl did them. ( she’s 3) I let her go out in public, sometimes people look and smile if we are not going anywhere special who cares let them express themselves. It is really funny when she tries to put her hair in pig tails…priceless

I have a grand—niece, can I add her photo? Truly, this seems unfair, since I collect dolls.

I am so glad I don’t have to deal with any of that this year. Our new public school opened this year and they are having the kids wear uniforms. Cheap on my pocketbook, and all solid colors!
