Mismatched Kids' Clothing -- Fashion Do or Don't?

Sunday, September 21, 2008
filed under: kid logic

This year, back to school clothing trends cater to your child's need to express themselves with color and texture. Finally, moms won't have to feel the embarrassment of their child's desire to wear polka dots with plaid pants, because it's IN!

Kids are gracing the runways with trendy mismatched clothing that won't put a dent in your pocketbook. The best thing about this trend is that you're actually giving your child the freedom to express themselves in a way that would have humiliated you a year ago! And, it's an affordable trend that can be concocted right at home -- with the clothes your child already has hanging in the closet.

If this is just too edgy for you and your princess, you can always bring home a Polly Pocket Pop N' Swap. This is nonstop fun for your fashion-forward girl. She can learn to express herself and, at the same time, have fun mismatching the clothes for these miniature dolls. And Polly Pocket Pop N' Swap is affordable for moms -- it's under 20 bucks!

Together with Polly Pocket Pocket Pop N' Swap, momlogic is conducting a survey on girls and self-expression. Click to take our fashion-forward survey. The first 50 moms to take the survey will win a Polly Pocket Sample for their daughter!

My oldest likes to wear mismatched socks and my youngest just wants to wear what she wants to wear whether it matches or not. I say you have to pick your battles and most days I’m not going to worry if their clothes don’t match. Someday, they’ll look back at pictures and say “I can’t believe I wore that!”

My daughter started picking out her clothes at 18 months! She is now 6 and still has the same fashion determination!! I don’t mind if we are going out — eventually she’ll get the hang of what “goes” together. I don’t even care if it’s all the appropriate season…just so long as everything is appropriately covered. :) I am glad she has such strong sense of self and self confidence. I am praying it will keep her from aimlessly following others later in life.

I have 4 little girls so, as you can imagine, we are very “into” clothes in our home! My little 6-year-old, has always had a natural instinct for fashion, unlike her Mommy! She cracks me up when she comes to the top of the stairs dressed in a complete “outfit” just to do play dough! I am amazed that what I once thought to be her mismatched little girl fashion, is actually hip! The other day she had on a long-sleeved pink stripped shirt, a short sleeve pink polka-dotted t-shirt over it and a sleeveless solid pink hoodie over it halfway zipped. She had a white skort, pink stripped socks and a pink and white polka-dotted bandana around her hair! That’s pretty amazing for a 6-year-old! She “helps” and gives fashion advice to her 8-year-old and 4-year-old sissies and she loves to dress her 1-year-old sissy and “present” her to Mommy and Daddy! So cute! : )

HI all, Kids of all ages love to dress creatively, the older they get the more they want a “fashionable” Mismatch look. For all parents and teens, you can get that “fashionable” Mismatch look at: Mismatchkids dot com or Mismatchstore dot US. What I love about Mismatch’s site is that everything is made in the USA. Take a look see…
