You Can Lose Weight at Work

Forget getting up at the crack of dawn for an aerobics class. Get your exercise in at your desk!
Some folks are walking their way through the work day rather than sitting at their desks -- they've jumped on the "Work Walker" -- a treadmill/desk combo that's designed to keep you productive AND healthy. The NY Times reports some offices have installed the $4000 contraptions in open areas where employees can jump on. In some workspaces they've even replaced conference tables with the contraption. Mutual of Omaha workers have their own personal walkstations, and walk their entire 9 to 5 day. They've gotta be walking pretty slow, to keep up an eight hour work/type/walk session, right?
Wow, now that’s just what I need! I love cool inventions and walking at your desk is definitely a good one. Way to go!
Considering that the vast majority of North Americans, as well as the rest of the world, are manual labourers, the assumption that we all are sedentary workers who need to increase our physical activity is somewhat out of balance.

I am a teacher who travels from class to class to provide support services to students with learning disablitites. I probably walk 2-3 miles a day and it makes no difference… you have to go above and BEYOND your normal daily activities to lose weight.
