Moms Who Know How to Work It
We talked to three mom business owners about how they achieved their success -- read their advice and win some of their fabulous products!
Jill Biggins Gerbracht
Once she became a mom, this former PR rep for Princess Cruise Lines needed a job where she didn't travel. Jill and and a friend started Social Butterfly Designs in 2000, creating adorable cards and announcements. The mom of three now runs the company alone from home, and most of her clients are moms. She advises those interested in starting a home business to take it slow and be realistic about balancing work and family obligations.
Jill has expanded her business to include personalized stationary, address labels and photo journals. Enter for your chance to win a beautiful Social Butterfly Designs basket including: four sets of notecards, a small clipboard and notepad, a birthday calendar, two busy girl list pads, a butterfly garland strand, a set of Little Books About Me and a decorative eraser (valued at $125). Learn more and purchase on the Social Butterfly Designs website.
Veronica Milito
With three young daughters, this creative stay-at-home mom knew the importance of having spare outfits for your kids. She and a friend started the popular babysparewear line in 2003 by shopping one outfit style around to stores in Los Angeles. Veronica says the keys to growing the business were going to trade shows and building an online community. Now babysparewear is made in a large variety of baby and toddler styles sold in over 250 stores across the U.S. and online.
Hollywood moms are also fans of babysparewear. Enter for your chance to win the toddler spare outfit "to go" in fuchsia that Courteney Cox stores in her daughter's cubby (valued at $36) . Momlogic readers can also enjoy a 10% discount from purchases made on the babysparewear site through December 31, 2008. Use promo code: momlogic10.
Lyndsay Levy
The talented owner of Luscious Jewelry Design has been creating and marketing jewelry for 16 years. Being a mom has affected her designs. The mom of two children (ages ten and eight) prefers not to make bracelets or long earrings, because kids grab at them. Lyndsay advises other moms to go into business doing something you love, because you'll have to work crazy hours -- including after the kids go to bed. She says running a business is harder than you think it's going to be -- but adds that it's also more rewarding than you imagine.
We're giving away a gorgeous LN-FLO4 necklace in red from Luscious Jewelry Design (retails around $40). Any mom will love wearing this beautiful, nature-inspired piece. Enter for your chance to win the necklace. Lyndsay's designs are only sold wholesale, and you can find a retailer in your area on the Luscious Jewelry Design website. Visit Presents of Mind to shop online.
