Gov. Sarah Palin's teen daughter pregnant: In breaking news today, the McCain campaign released a statement confirming that the 17-year-old daughter of VP pick, Sarah Palin, is 5-months pregnant. Campaign officials say Senator McCain was aware that Bristol, who's expected to marry the baby's father, was pregnant when he selected her mother as his running mate. The Palins asked the media to respect their daughter's privacy.

Gustav approaching Gulf Coast: Two million residents fled New Orleans under a mandatory evacuation and are bracing for Hurricane Gustav. The category-3 storm, with winds upwards of 115 mph, is expected to make landfall this morning. FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security are in place waiting to respond to any emergencies that unfold due to the storm.

Biden lays out differences with Palin: Senator Joe Biden knows who his VP opponent is, and is making sure voters know the differences between them. At a rally yesterday in Ohio, Biden said, "There's obvious differences...she's good looking." A supporter in the crowd called out and said Biden himself is "gorgeous." Biden said he's feeling "pretty old" next to the young-looking Obama and asked her to speak a little louder so his wife Jill wouldn't miss her comment.

Republican convention scaled back: Due to the approaching Hurricane Gustav, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain ordered that the events at the convention--set to start today--be scaled back. President Bush and Vice President Cheney, both of whom were scheduled to speak Monday night, have cancelled their appearances. McCain said he did not even know when he would arrive in St. Paul and left open the possibility of accepting his nomination via satellite from the Gulf Coast.

Why is it any of our business that Palin’s daughter is pregnant? There have been a lot of comments in the media as to the affect if she cannot control her teenage daughter how does she expect to run the country. Those of us who are parents understand no matter how hard we try as parents our kids make mistakes. This is a big mistake but not a reflection on her parents at all. Glad to see they have been up front and plan to support her through this.
Kudos to this faamily!

JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW SEXUALLY ACTIVE OUR TEENAGERS ARE. WE AS PARENTS HAVE NO CONTROL? I DON’T THINK SO. IT SEEMS TO BE VERY POPULAR TO BE A TEEN MOTHER. I WAS 19 AND MARRIED WHEN I HAD MY FIRST CHILD. DON’T PARENTS TALK TO THEIR CHILDREN ANY MORE? NO, I THINK IT’S WRONG AND I DON’T EXCUSE IT JUST BECAUSE THE FAMILY WANTS THEIR PRIVACY RESPECTED. SHE’S RUNNING FOR VP OF THE UNITED STATES. ALL YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY GETS MADE PUBLIC. WE AS A VOTING NATION NEED TO KNOW WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE WE ARE ELECTING INTO OFFICE. EVIDENTLY THEY ARE FREE SPIRITS. I’M GLAD I’M A DEMOCRAT!

Are you guys serious? This woman is anti-choice and will put into effect only an abstinence education for teens. It obviously didn’t work for her own daughter. There are going to be a lot more abused and unwanted children if this lady becomes president (ie if McCain is elected and croaks)
