Amy Winehouse braindead? New details of Amy Winehouse's drug usage was uncovered Sunday night -- including a report that she binged on crystal meth and may have brain damage after a 36-hour marijuana
stint. Winehouse, 24, suffered two major overdoses, with reportedly such bad convulsions that they were "like a scene from The Exorcist." And apparently her body is so frail from drug use that doctors were scared she would break bones during a fit. A close friend of Amy's warned medics that one more overdose will probably kill her, adding: "The future is bleak, bleak, bleak."

Young American filmmaker detained in Nigeria: Andrew Berends, an American filmmaker in his 20s, was detained Sunday night in Nigeria along with his translator. He had entered Nigeria legally in April to finish a documentary. He was held in custody without food, sleep, or representation, and with limited water, for 36 hours. Then he was questioned by the army and police, and his passport and personal property were confiscated. His family is now calling for his immediate release.

Hurricane Gustav evacuees urged to stay out:
Officials warned Gulf Coast evacuees not to return home Tuesday to assess the damage from Hurricane Gustav, but it appeared that southern Louisiana's levees had passed their first test since Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said, "We have over 50 percent of our citizens without power. Our sewer system is damaged and not operational. And our hospitals are still with skeletal crews. So we'll repair most of that today and tomorrow and start the process for re-entry thereafter,"

Kids with older dad at bipolar risk: Children born to fathers older than 30 are more likely to develop bipolar disorder, a common condition sometimes known as manic depression, according to a new Swedish study. The paternal risk also grows with the age of a father, rising to 37 percent by the time a man is 55 years old. This research echoes previous findings that children of older fathers are at higher risk of psychological conditions such as bipolar disorder, autism and schizophrenia.

I have a daughter who is 25, and my heart goes out to Amy. Drugs are bigger than her right now and she desperately needs help. My prayers are with Amy, and those who love her. My husband is a D&A counselor, and it’s always a bright moment when the addict realizes that he or she is powerless over the addiction and begins the process of recovery. That’s my prayer for Amy.
