Moms Are Talking About...

Teri Hatcher's motherly advice: The single mother of 10-year-old Emerson tells her daughter to "have great sex [and] eat the chocolate." In the October issue of British Glamour the Desperate Housewife also tells her daughter to never sit on a public toilet seat and always floss. Words to live by.

McCain vs. Obama--TV ratings race: The numbers are in and Senator John McCain beat Senator Obama in total viewers who watched his presidential nomination acceptance speech. Senator McCain's Thursday night address was seen by 38.9 million viewers compared to the 38.3 million who watched Senator Obama's speech in Denver. For some perspective, American Idol averaged 28.1 million viewers last season. At least Paula and Simon didn't beat the potential presidents in the ratings!

U.S. unemployment rate hits 5-year high: For the first time since 2003, the U.S. unemployment rate reached 6.1 percent in the month of August. Over 600,000 jobs have been lost since the beginning of the year. Senator Obama told supporters in Pennsylvania that they would think "George Bush and his potential Republican successor, John McCain, would be spending a lot of time worrying about the economy and all these jobs that are being lost on their watch" but the nation's increasing unemployment rate was barely mentioned at the Republican Convention. Senator McCain issued a statement and said, "Americans are hurting and we must act to create jobs."

Lindsay Lohan won't bare all: Playboy magazine tried to get Lindsay Lohan to strip down and pose for their 55th Anniversary issue, but the actress said no. The nudie magazine reportedly offered Lindsay upwards of $700,000 for a "Kitten With a Whip" theme spread (inspired by her favorite film). Lohan said she was "flattered" by the offer, but did not think she needed to pose naked at this point in her career.

I’m sure there was more to it on what Teri said. The press likes to just use the juicy tidbits so it sounds bad.

I think a lot of the unemployment stems from the cost of gas!! Many companies are cutting back to save money. I think Bush/McCain/Obama need to focus on what they’re going to do about the cost of fuel!!
