Group fights to raise national driving age: An influential auto safety group is reaching out to states to raise the age teenagers can get their driving license to 17 or 18. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety backs the plea with figures that show driving accidents to be the top killer of teenagers. "The bottom line is that when we look at the research, raising the driving age saves lives," the president of the company said. Not everyone is a fan of the proposal, however. Many think the focus should be on the huge issue of general alcohol related incidents. "The intense focus on teens diverts our attention from the real threats to public safety: speeding and driving while intoxicated," Karen Sternheimer, a University of Southern California sociologist, said.
Mother of microwaved baby is sentenced: China Arnold, 28, has been sentenced in the death of her 1-month-old baby in 2005. Arnold was spared the death penalty, but will spend life in prison and will be eligible for parole in 25 years. Her first trial was declared a mistrial after her defense team blamed the death of the baby on an 8-year-old boy. It was later discovered that the boy wasn't at the house at the time of the baby's death.
Usher expecting Baby Number Two: Usher is going to be a father for the second time, according to People. The R&B star and his wife Tameka Foster are expecting their second child together, a source close to the singer confirms. The couple welcomed their first child, Usher Raymond V, in November 2007. Since then, Usher, 29, has spoken publicly about how much he loves being a dad.
