MTV VMAs Rocked the House

Find out what happened on last night's MTV Video Music Awards--including Britney's appearance, the '80s fashions, and the buzz about the Jonas Brothers' sex lives.

The 25th annual MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by British comic Russell Brand, aired last night--giving moms like us a reason to stay up late and rock out. The show wasn't as polished as it could have been--but sometimes that's part of the fun.

The highlights:

• On the red carpet, Kobe Bryant, hand-in-hand with wife Vanessa, said he was excited for Lil Wayne but, in a stars-are-just-like-us moment, admitted that Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers are staples in his house. (Ours, too!)

• The show opened with Britney Spears welcoming everyone and receiving a standing ovation. She took home three awards, including Video of the Year, and thanked her "two beautiful boys" for being an inspiration to her. She looked so awesome and handled herself so well, she virtually erased memories of last year's fiasco of a performance.

• Throughout the show, the always irreverent Russell Brand mocked the Jonas Brothers' virginity and purity rings. American Idol Jordin Sparks stuck up for virginity by explaining that not everyone wants to be slutty. Brand apologized for his comments, but then said "a little sex never hurt anybody."

• The performances rocked. Rihanna, the Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Kid Rock, and Kanye West sang live. The newly single Pink was absolutely amazing and looked incredible. But we were most interested in new mom Christina Aguilera's powerhouse performance. Her new bangs were mesmerizing!

• Fashion took center stage, as always. Eighties looks were a standout, as was Lindsay Lohan's lady tuxedo. A very pregnant Ashlee Simpson looked great and boasted that her Alexander McQueen dress helped make her three Bs look good--her boobs, belly and booty.

What did you think of the show?

Your stupid. Russell Brant was an ignorant Ahole who made America look like trash. He offended Republicans (he’s not even a US citizen) and Christians. You must not be from this country. Go back home

I did not like it. It felt like a High School Talent Show. It was filled with trashy people that are so insecure about themselves that they had to insult and disrespect people with values and morals in order to make themselves feel better. I’m making a point to rip MTV out of our house once my kids become more media social. I don’t need that influence near my kids or in my home.

I grew up in the “country” here in the U.S. I always thought it was pathetic when some of my junior-high classmates bragged about having sex.
I saw pairs of dogs “stuck together” enough times to realize at a young age that it doesn’t take much intelligence to have sex.
My peers who started having sex at 12 and 13 (one girl started at 11, at the local park, with witnesses) are the ones who ended up pregnant before high school graduation, are now grandparents (my kids are 8 and 10) and aspire to one day have a coveted double-wide “manufactured home” instead of a single-wide. Oh, yeah, they were the mature ones, all right.
