She said, "When one happens, you think 'God, that's some really bad luck.' It's not supposed to happen this way. We're supposed to [outlive our kids]. With the second one, there's anger and then there's disbelief. There is that question of 'What could we possibly have done so bad to be punished like this?' But the bottom line is that it's nothing we did. It's nature. Our friend says, 'It is what it is.' And that's where we're at."
Linda knows Travis Barker. He was Chris' best man at his wedding to Jessie less than a year ago (their first anniversary would have been October 2). Linda says she has communicated with Travis in messages since the accident. She understands that he is in incredible pain and that his burns are horrible. She said he feels terrible for his father -- it's hard to watch your child suffer and not be able to help him. She said "Travis is a very well-mannered, nice young man." She also added that, after all the victims and their families deal with their pain, they'll get together.
She describes her son Chris proudly, saying, "In his 29 years, he crammed more in than most 80-year-olds ... He traveled the world ... saw the Mona Lisa and hung out in a pub with Prince William and Harry." She adds that a friend described her fun-loving son by saying, "he wasn't a person -- he was an event."
She said that her surviving son, 22-year-old James, is obviously struggling, adding, "With three boys, they had to spread everything out and share. Now he will get all our love and all our attention and we'll help him get through this." Linda also asked that we all say a prayer for the two survivors, DJ AM and Travis Barker.
Linda lives in Roseville, CA, about 20 minutes outside of Sacramento.
