Sexist Men Make More Money

Thursday, September 25, 2008

New research says jerkier guys earn bigger paychecks.

Your annoying chauvinist co-worker may bug the hell out of you, but he makes more money than you do -- and your hardworking, nice as pie husband.

A new study from the University of Florida says sexist guys earn $14,000 more than their more equality-minded co-workers.

Researchers interviewed nearly 13,000 people over twenty years, asking if they believed women should stay home and cook and clean and if marrying a working woman results in juvenile delinquency. They were also asked if men should be the sole breadwinners.

Men who answered yes to all three questions were labeled "traditional" and earned significantly more than men who disagreed with the statements. According to study co-author Timothy Judge, the results show how attitude affects earnings, and that "when workers' attitudes become more traditional, women's earnings relative to men's suffer greatly."

And the same is true for women -- sorta. Ladies who hold "feminist" views earn a mere $1500 more than women who secretly believe their place is in the home.

Ok, the photo and the title don’t exactly line up with the story. Come ON, momlogic! Enough with the interesting titles and LAME articles! I’m tired of being teased with good titles and disappointed by the stories that don’t live up to the hype.

Okay, but here’s what I suspect: men who earn more tend to be more “sexist,” because they are able to support a woman with that $14,000 or whatever … plus they’re probably older, and getting more money for that reason, thus have more “pre 70’s” viewpoints. Or perhaps they’re earning more because they’re working extra hard to support a family?
