If your daughter is asking for black lip gloss, don't worry. Goth is the new pink.

Gone are days of pretty pink frosted lips. The newest hot lip color is black. No, this is not a Halloween trick -- fall fashion runways showcased the look, sales are firmly at the top of the beauty market: Yves Saint Laurent's "Pur Black" isn't even available in stores yet, but it's already pre-sold out at $28 a pop. If you are dying to go Marilyn Manson chic but don't want to drop that kind of coin, why not go to a Halloween costume shop, where a tube of black goo will cost no more than $1.99? Add some Vaseline and voila! ...runway (or run-away) ready. Sigh.

I read about this in the LA Times yesterday! What a weird trend. The moms at my daughter’s school would run away in horror. Wait, maybe that’s a reason to do it.

One glance at a modern day Halloween store is proof that every 13 year old american girl has at least 2 dozen outfits to chose from that can make her look like Marque de Sade’s Juliet, or, a little Lolita in full bondage.

I remember back in the mid 80’s black lipstick at Halloween was already out. I liked it, but was too shy to try it. I did try black fingernail polish around the same time, and was ridiculed by classmates. Now it’s all the rage!
