Hey, Palin: The Puck Stops Here

Guest blogger and soccer enthusiast Political Dad's take on Palin's "Hockey Mom" status...

As soon as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin described herself as a "hockey mom" in her speech to the Republican National Convention, America and the media went nuts over the latest clichéd demographic. Palin joked, "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick--and with that the "Hockey Mom" replaced the myth of the suburban "Soccer Mom."

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I spent most of my life kicking a soccer ball, so I know a few things about what my mom endured--carting me from one practice to another, washing grimy soccer socks, cutting thousands of orange slices. In elections past, everyone seemed obsessed with courting the soccer mom vote. How is it possible that things could change so fast? Is there really any difference between a mom who packs the kids into a minivan to take them to an ice rink instead of a soccer field? After all, isn't hockey just soccer on ice?

At last count, there were 18 million kids playing soccer in the United States--more than any other nation in the world. But, according to USA Hockey, there are only 347,061 players below the age of 20. That's roughly 17 million more soccer moms. Where'd they all go? Nowhere, I suspect--because here's the deal: Hockey moms are soccer moms, especially when they live around the Great Lakes swing states--and that stereotype of a woman is exactly what the Republican Party wants to revive. They want moms to believe that Sarah Palin is just like them.

Here's the problem: Governor Palin opposes just about every issue that the majority of moms, hockey or otherwise, support. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but denies global warming. She opposes gun control but supports governmental control of a women's uterus. She opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions. I'll skip the obvious irony here.

Even scarier, Palin, unlike McCain, pledges to criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade. She believes that if one of her or your daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, they should bear the child or go to jail.

Sound familiar? This hockey mom isn't a pit bull with lipstick, she's George Bush with lipstick. And if enough soccer moms believe this fantasy--well, then we all might end up with an incredibly dangerous and inexperienced person a heartbeat away from the presidency.

All the comments about Palin is about things that mean nothing in politics but why not read about what Obama will do to us with taxes that he does not talk about in public. Study the ideals he has and be afraid, very afraid of what this nation would become with a Muslim at the desk of President of USA

AYO I’m guessing you watched the video where Obama says that he has traveled 57 states. If not google it and watch and answer this question: Why do you think someone who is running for the UNITED STATES Presidency does not know how many states there are? Here is an educated theory. Take it or leave it…but it does bring some questions to ask. The Organization of Islam has 57 member states. These states exist in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkan, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South America. This is a MUSLIM organization whose headquarters is in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The leader is Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglw. The Organization of Islam rejected the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as not being consistent with Sharia Law. Google Sharia Law and see what you get. So, was Obama just ignorant and never actually studied Geography in school or does he has something to hide? You do the research. Also, let me tell you about Barack Obama’s mentor. The person who he truly looked up to. Saul Alinsky, author of Rules of Radicals. Mr. Alinsky, dedicated his book to Satan. Here is a quote from the Washington Post, “Obama has embraced many of Alinsky’s tactics and recently said his years as an organizer gave him the best education of his life.” Hmmm… does this seem a bit alarming to you? Hillary Clinton was offered a job working for Saul Alinsky’s organization. She turned it down. Neither candidate would agree to be interviewed about Alinsky. Why do you suppose that is? Let’s now talk about Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dorhn. If you don’t know who they are then perhaps you should truly read up about them. Here is the short version. They are radical militants. They were involved in a “pro violence” group that wanted to destroy American government. They were responsible for the bombing of the Pentagon. Still many years later they have no remorse for what they did and believe they didn’t do enough destruction. Barack Obama is associated with these two hate mongers. He actually was invited to their home and was in attendance. They back his campaign. Why do you think that is? An honest question that deserves an honest answer. It’s time everyone started looking up the facts about this man who has fooled the American people like they are deaf, dumb, and blind. Don’t just sit around

Sarah Palin hates women. She would have us enslaved by taking away our right to choose. She has said over and over again that abortion should be illegal in all cases. ILLEGAL when a woman is violently impregnated against her will. So the choice Palin’s own daughter was able to make, you know the daughter she so effectively taught abstinence to, that choice would NOT be available to YOUR daughter should Palin be elected. And Mitch, your ignorance is astounding. Obama is a Christian. It’s common, public knowledge. Saying he’s a muslim is propaganda aimed at the unintelligent. I’d think you’d be a little more concerned with what a card carrying secessionist would do behind the desk of the most powerful office on earth. Because God forbid McCain is elected, that is where she’ll be when he croaks in office. How long do you think it will be before one of the militant automatic weapon toting members of the militia group Palin & her husband belong too assassinates McCain so she can have total power to carry out their agenda? Sound unlikely? Let’s say it’s just Cancer or old age or even MORE bad plastic surgery gone awry that kills him, this woman who has never traveled outside the U.S. and who believes the dinosaur skeletons in museums were made by man & never lived or walked this earth, will have the nuclear codes. How can any of you say Palin is like other moms?! She is NOT! Most moms do not think it is FUN to shoot beautiful wild animals from an airplane after they are worn out from running! Most moms do not think it is acceptable to have 15 tiny baby wolf cubs shot point blank in the head. Most moms do not think is is mom/daughter bonding while standing over a caribou ol’ mom shot. Most moms do not think it an accetable option to send their child to jail if they choose not to have a baby from rape. Palin is a horrible woman who doesn’t know anything about world affairs and who hates wildlife. I am a Republican, and I despise her…and I am not the only Republican who does. By the way, a Pomeranian recently killed a tiny baby…where are the headlines screaming about that!? This is for the poster who wrote about the Vegas pitbulls, and if that happened, it is the OWNERS who are at fault!

Excuse me Jezzie, but why didn’t Biden choose to “stay home” and take care of his kids after his wife died? What has he saved the tax payers by commuting to Washington everyday? Not fooled Not fooled by what? Did you do any research to try and discount any of these facts? You gave no explanation for any of the facts that I had listed. You just want to remain close minded and say, “Those things aren’t true.” It amazes me that some people are not worried about these things. I don’t hate Barack Obama personally. But, yes, this is about hatred, the radical muslims HATE US. I am concerned about his background which is being exposed but apparently some people just want to ignore it. Why is that? Just because you are a Democrat does not mean you have to vote for someone who could potentially be a time bomb for our country. His associations with these people are frankly frightenining. On another note, John McCain is the running mate of Barack Obama for the Presidential seat. Ultimately it will be John McCain making the decisions in the White House. He will be the commander in charge not Sarah Palin if they are elected. I have heard John McCain’s stance on abortion. He argued with President Bush about making an exclusion in the bill that protects women who have been raped, for incest victims, and for women who’s life would be compromised to continue a pregnancy. He was very determined that his views be heard. I am sure that the abortion law would be changed but it would be improved. Here’s how: No longer could women have abortions just because the pregnancy is an inconvenience. There would have to be a legitimate reason. Rape, Incest, or a life threatening situation. No longer would babies be born from abortion and be left to die inhumanely. It amazes me that people care so much about wolves but don’t care enough to want our government to protect innocent infants.

Give me a break!! Sarah Palin resonates with voters because she is typical. She understands that she does not work for the lobbyists or big government, but for the people.

Our economy has taken a huge nosedive yet again today. Countries around the world don’t trust us. All on the watch of the Republican administration. And here you are talking nonsense. And all the pro life talking Bush did to get elected by the right wing. NOTHING has changed and it probably never will. They had 8 years to deliver what they promise you all. Wake up and pay attention to the real world and issues that really pertain.

How do you know he is a Christian? Because he says so…Give me a break! Tell me you are not that ignorant. Do you think his church that preached hatred was a Christian church? How often do you go in a church and the preacher is screaming “God Damn America”. I find it funny you say I am getting scary. You should be scared of Barack Obama and his friends that support him. I don’t care if you believe me or not. I have said many times look it up for yourself and come up with your own conclusions. Don’t just assume I am lying because it’s not what you want to hear about Obama. Get the facts. There is no doubt that Obama did look up to Saul Alinsky. He said it himself. Look that up. The Washington Post has a good article. Why would Obama look up to this man? A man who wrote Rules of Radicals and dedicated his book to satan. Tell me why, please? I would like to know the answer.

CK1, I went looking on the net to research who you ask people to take a look at. Its easier to go to Youtube.com and search the names along with Obama. The debate between Hillary and Obama the Bill Ayers Question was interesting. Its funny how we get caught up and wrap into the campaign then forget about issue like this. Keep up the good work CK1. What I dont understand about America is WHY?!?!?! Do you want to elect a president with the name Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Do you not see the connection here, people?

I appreciate that you took the time to get your own information so you could see for yourself. It is nice to know that there ARE some people who do care about America’s future. Sarah Palin may be pro-life, but she brought 5 lives into the world that she obviously doesn’t care much about spending time with. Her children need her much more than we do. She has a very young child with special needs, and a teenage daughter that needs some attention from her Mother at this time in her life. If she needs to work, she needs to get a job that doesn’t pull her away from the family she chose. Being VP of the U.S.A. is a very demanding job. God forbid something were to happen to McCain. If she wanted to have a career with this high of a rank, she should have considered the price her 5 children would have to pay. She is one of the most celebrated selfish people I have ever seen. McCain lost my vote because of her.

wow!!!! I am just trying to understand what is going on with America. There is constantly at least one story a week on the news for someone going to jail for either mistreating or killing an animal…… but yet it should be okay to have an abortion?????????? How backwards it is!!! I will be voting for McCain/Palin and if anyone else wants this country to be in good hands they will too!!!!
