Palin: Trailblazer or Bad Mother? You Decide!

Moms debate over whether Sarah Palin would make a good vice president.

trailblazer_cover_270.jpg

There is no bigger news this week than vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. Mothers everywhere are at odds over whether this mom of five is fit to be VP.

McCain met Sarah Palin for the first time in February at a National Governors Association meeting, where they chatted for 15 minutes. They met in person for a second time last week, when he invited her to his ranch in Sedona, Arizona. There, McCain offered her a spot on his ticket. Despite barely knowing her, McCain has called Sarah Palin his campaign "soul mate."

In Alaska, Governor Palin...

• Challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill.

• Used her veto and cut budgetary spending.

• Put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

• She's also being investigated for the firing of a commissioner for public safety, Walter Moneghan. Mr. Moneghan claims that he was fired as commissioner because he refused to fire a state trooper who was divorcing Palin's sister. Plus, her opponents claim she simply doesn't have enough experience to be Commander in Chief, should something happen to John McCain.

The governor of Alaska is the mother of 5 children--Track, 18; Bristol, 17; Willow, 13; Piper, 7; and Trig, 4 months. As we all know by now, 17-year-old Bristol is pregnant, and 4-month-old Trig has Down syndrome. It has been reported that Palin went back to work just three days after giving birth to Trig.

The conversation got heated at momlogic yesterday, when we ran "The 'Juno' Effect Strikes Washington."

Mom Kate said: "Don't waste your vote on someone who will open up Alaska to drillers and take away women's reproductive rights. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she is good for women."

But not everyone agrees with Kate...not by a long shot. Go to PAGE TWO to hear other moms' opinions.

It’s funny watching the RNC. I don’t think anyone said anything of any substance. Just more bullshit.

This woman is hot! I’d love for her to be my VP, that way she could be closer to me than Alaska!!!

My only criticism of the entire Palin family is —WHY is that 17 year old not already married?? How can they not have some semblance of shame in public—why not just have gone to any justice of the peace last week?? The girl’s already 5 month along?? I wonder when she actually told her parents?? And what are they waiting for??

There is NO company who would want Palin with all the DRAMA embracing her! Why should we, the voters be any different? I just don’t believe PALIN is the BEST choice for our country.

Wake up America—-only a fool and a narrow minded person would fall for this choice of a VP. As previously commented on, MCCain may not even last till election day? People lack, judgement, vision, and insight. The Republic Party already have the country at the lowest level—-we need better. If we do not take responsibility, then we are trodding on sand for our children and grandchildren. Please!!! Bush was a governor and with all his executive experience, his performance has been the worst in recent history of the US. Obama and his wife are two Harvard powerhouse—-have you read and done researches. We want people who are new and innovative. We want Obama and Biden. Again, Wake up!

The liberals prove once again that they are sexist. They are trying to do to Sara Palin what they did to Hillary Clinton. Sarah is more qualified by experience to serve in the VP capacity than Barack Obamama is to be president.

I am just really tired of all the bad mouthing that was taking place at last night’s convention. I had to turn off Rudy Giuliani, as he was just going on and on. I don’t know who I will vote for right now, or if I will vote. I am waiting for the debates. I am really turned off by all of this negativity. Lots of opinions, lots of finding fault with the other candidate. I want to know what they will do for elderly, health care, homeless, and for the working class people. When will we get breaks like the oil companies?

I am thrilled with Senator McCain’s VP pick! They have my vote and my entire family’s, as well. By the way, my wonderful Mom raised 6 children and worked, when Moms didn’t work. She did a fantastic job at work and at home, etc. Every family is different and should be allowed the choice to live the life that works best for them.

I totally agree that Palin is definitely not a good choice for V.P. The fact that she had two more children after having three already. We have an over populaton problem in this country already and she had a nice family. Also can she ever appear by herself without having babies/kids taggin along. Obama/Biden have so much more going for our country. Bush has screw the country up enought so why we we even think about votin for McCain/Palin. Let’s get some real leaders in the white house that truly care about our economy.

Oh people, get over it. There is nothing wrong with Sarah Palin. She has showed herself warts and all. At least she is not telling lies and trying to cover her family flaws up. Who cares if her husband wanted Alaska to not be a part of the United States? After all the government has been raping Alaska for years. Do you blame him? She is more than qualified to do the job. Tell me one thing Obama has done that is positive in the Senate. I don’t care if he was educated at Harvard. Education means NOTHING! It is what you do for yourself and others. Check Obama’s record in the Senate it is public information. He has done a big nothing. Sarah Palin you go girl!

Ok - I am so confused. I thought the women of the world wanted equality and change? This women is standing here with all of her faults and all of her mistakes for the world to see - offering healthcare options, offering tax breaks, offering to bring a sense of morality TO the White House and you all think she should be home raising her children? Did I wake up in 1952 with the June Cleavers of the world sans the progress in Civil Rights?! You people are laughable…and seriously delusional. Why should she be home with her children when I’m not? Are you telling me I should be home with my children? Why shouldn’t Obama be home with his children - you don’t think Michelle will have just as much to do as First Lady as Palin would have as Vice President. I am certainly open to hearing intelligent discussions, but they must first be intelligent. Don’t act or speak on emotion - please become educated in all of your options and use common sense.

Oh my God, Jan. Did you just mention population control?! What a communist statement - are you going to be handing out rice portions later this evening or abortion gift certificates. I am pro-choice, you are pro-force. You are sick, sick person who I would love to remove from this country.

I think Sarah Palin would make a great vp! She is a woman of substance, who does what she thinks is right, and I love her views and her stance. And as much as I’d like couples to wed before the pregnacy, who doesn’t have someone in their family/friends that hasn’t become pregnant while unwed?! It’s common and, unfortunately, all the sex ed in the world isn’t going to change that. Obama is an eloquent speech maker. I see nothing else he can do.

I am trying to reasonable here and give her time to say something or do something profound but I must say she is not doing anything to help me. Just because she is a woman, I tried to reason and have an open mind but honestly she lacks experience and she comes across as a liar and a cheater who has too many kids and need at least 2 nanny’s to help her on a daily basis.

OMG I just read these posts and realized there are really some wacky people out there….. So all of you that are cracking Palin beacause her unwed teenaged daughter is pregnant must have children that have NEVER done ANYTHING against your upd]bringing and teaching? LOL it is sooo easy to point a finger!!!

Oh My Gosh!! Why have children if you don’t want to be with them? Most people ship their children off to school to get away from them but many are at least at home eagerly awaiting their arrival home. Maybe Daddy Palin is at home? I would hope. I do not understand why all politicians bash the other. A really good canidate would be one who does not feel the need to defend himself against the lies and only address the facts and real problems. Thank goodness Obama had the good sense not to bash Palin, even though he has been given plenty of amunition. Maybe if we all stopped telling lies to each other, including those little white lies that don’t matter, we could start to change things for the better.

It’s just amazing to me how many Americans are so ignorant to the real issues. Just because something is shown on the the TV or is printed in a magazine doesn’t make it the God honest truth. I understand this is just good old fashioned comment style debate, but it turns my stomach that we are all so quick to judge when about 99% of us don’t have the you-know-whats to give our HONEST — and I mean HONEST opinions even to our closest friends because we are afraid of what they may think of us. We should all do more research for ourselves, A LOT more thinking, and a whole hellova lot less witch hunting!

I think Sarah Palin has “guts”. I didn’t know much about her, but after her speech last night I think she has the stamina and the experience to take a run at the VP office. She already is a successful politician, making changes in her state. She takes care of her family. She has the support of a loving and strong husband who takes a very active role in raising his children. She refuses to let her pregnant daughter become the focus of whether or not she can run the country. Every family has their struggles, and choices that change their lives. Her daughter made that choice. Now, she is taking responsibility for that choice, she is having a baby! The interview with Joe Biden after Sarah’s speech, was comical. He stuttered and stammered and couldn’t answer the questions posed to him. Is this what would happen if he were in the White House?? My vote will go to McCain/Palin.

Im disgusted with the people who say she should be at home with her knocked up daughter. Easy for you to leave a comment like that and not leave your name. Grow up, its 2008. I was 16 when i got pregnant, my mother taught me birth control, and i didnt listen. Who is to say that it is her fault that her daughter decided not to listen to her. Noone will ever be good enough that everyone will like them to run our country. But to complain about how her daughter is pregnant, GROW UP!! We are all moms people, young, old, it doesnt matter. Forget that she is running for a moment, would it still matter to you that her daughter was pregnant if she wasnt up for the white house?? And by the way, SHE wont be president people, and god forbid Obama becomes president.

YEAH SARAH PALIN!!! This woman represents to me the ALL AMERICAN WOMAN. She is a wife, a mother, and a LEADER! She is strong willed and doesn’t back down when people throw their criticism at her. She fights like a “pitbull” for what is right and just. I LIKE HER! She has accomplished more than any woman I know personally. She shows other women that you don’t have to stop at being a Hockey mom but you can be anything that you want to be in AMERICA. AMEN to that! I think other women should praise her for her dedication to her family and her accomplishments. She is one awesome example of a strong woman. And to the sexist comments that think a woman can’t be a good leader and be a mom: That’s BULL! Sarah Palin has proven you wrong already! She is one hell of a Governor and will make one hell of a Vice President. I agree she is the PERFECT to move America forward in the 21st Century. Woman deserve to be heard and from what I can see she has alot to say and do. I look forward to her next speech. She lights up a room and makes ME proud to be a WOMAN. GOD BLESS HER AND HER FAMILY!
