Palin: Trailblazer or Bad Mother? You Decide!

Moms debate over whether Sarah Palin would make a good vice president.

trailblazer_cover_270.jpg

There is no bigger news this week than vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. Mothers everywhere are at odds over whether this mom of five is fit to be VP.

McCain met Sarah Palin for the first time in February at a National Governors Association meeting, where they chatted for 15 minutes. They met in person for a second time last week, when he invited her to his ranch in Sedona, Arizona. There, McCain offered her a spot on his ticket. Despite barely knowing her, McCain has called Sarah Palin his campaign "soul mate."

In Alaska, Governor Palin...

• Challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill.

• Used her veto and cut budgetary spending.

• Put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

• She's also being investigated for the firing of a commissioner for public safety, Walter Moneghan. Mr. Moneghan claims that he was fired as commissioner because he refused to fire a state trooper who was divorcing Palin's sister. Plus, her opponents claim she simply doesn't have enough experience to be Commander in Chief, should something happen to John McCain.

The governor of Alaska is the mother of 5 children--Track, 18; Bristol, 17; Willow, 13; Piper, 7; and Trig, 4 months. As we all know by now, 17-year-old Bristol is pregnant, and 4-month-old Trig has Down syndrome. It has been reported that Palin went back to work just three days after giving birth to Trig.

The conversation got heated at momlogic yesterday, when we ran "The 'Juno' Effect Strikes Washington."

Mom Kate said: "Don't waste your vote on someone who will open up Alaska to drillers and take away women's reproductive rights. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she is good for women."

But not everyone agrees with Kate...not by a long shot. Go to PAGE TWO to hear other moms' opinions.

Take a good look at the cover of US magazine. First Sarah Palin’s face is obviously distorted. Just look at the darkening that was applied around her nose, mouth and neck. Then look at the negative comments on the magazine cover. Now compare this cover to a previous cover with Barack Obama and Michelle on the cover. Their faces have been digitally enhanced and they have the most beautiful smiles. Do you see any darkness applied to their faces? Also, note the positive comments and head liners, “Why Barack Loves Her.” There is something very wrong with this picture. It looks a little like old fashioned suggestive propaganda. The Publisher of the US magazine has given over $130,000 to Democratic causes since 1993. Notice how relatively quiet things were with regard to the Republicans until Sarah Palin came along. Now the Democrats see her as a legitimate threat and they are terrified. Sarah Palin is everything Barack Obama is not. She has more executive level experience and is not afraid to stand up to corruption and then to take action against it—she not a “rock star,” just a devoted American. I am proud of Sarah Palin. She decided to keep her special needs baby even when the option of abortion was offered to her. She is standing by her 17 year old pregnant daughter; she loves and supports her husband and other children. She is the definition of a SUPER MOM. She is doing it all and doing an excellent job. The McCain/Palin ticket gets my vote. Now lets see if this gets published!

I am a stay at home mom. My husband works hard to provide our daughter with a good education, books, classical piano lessons, etc. He also works hard so that I can supervise my daughter’s daily activities. I have told my daughter many times that an unwed teen pregnancy will make her life difficult. I urge her to complete college, work for a year or two, then think about who she will marry. But, McCain and Palin are telling teens it is glorious to be teen parents and drop out of school. A boy who had unprotected sex with an underaged girl is now being flown to stand on stage at the RNC convention and to meet John McCain. No, Palin is an ambitious woman, who is selfish and hiding behind religious and hypocrisy.

I am sorry, but I am behind and there is just too much I want to comment on, so allow me to touch on a few in one post? [QUOTE] CK1 wrote: Teen pregnancy is widespread and nothing new. So why exploit an innocent child? Move on to the real issues…1)The war 2)The economy 3)Education 4)Healthcare , etc. etc. [END QUOTE] Listen to yourselves!! “Teen Pregnancy is widespread and NOTHING NEW”?? You are the right-winger here!! You should (and always have been before) AGAINST THIS SORT OF THING. To me, this just says, it’s o.k. if they are christians breeding more christians—IS THAT IT?? TELL THE TRUTH!! Climb off the flippin’ Palin hump train and take a SERIOUS look around at reality. This is wrong (imo). [QUOTE] April wrote to Jezzie: I was born and raised in the Bible Belt. And I still live in the Bible Belt. I attend church every Sunday and some Wednesdays (when work and family schedules allow it)… and I have seen many teens get pregnant, only to have an abortion because it’s shameful or inconvenient to them. In my small town, a teen pregnancy is often swept under the rug. [END QUOTE] I DETECT A PROBLEM HERE. Bible belt. Many teens pregnant. Abstinence Only policies. DUH. WHEN THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE GONNA WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CONDOMS?????! Jeez. Abstinence only DOES NOT WORK. [QUOTE] cara said: I think she’s honest and honorable. She could of made her kid get a secret abortion ( like so many other pol’s from both sides before her ) and saved face, lived a lie….but she didn’t. It shows her character and true colors. [END QUOTE] Can’t make a kid get a secret abortion if they keep the pregnancy secret for so long that it’s too late to get an abortion. LYING shows her character and true colors as well you know… [QUOTE] Salina wrote: PS: MOM named Bruce, I think your referring to the wrong candidate. That sounds like OBAMA’s pastor the Rev Wright, who is totally wrong! [END QUOTE] You aren’t as informed as you think. Trust me, I know about getting informed. I fell in love with Sarah Palin upon first reading her bio. Then I informed myself. About why BRUCE said, “I don’t want a president who WANTS WAR to bring her Jesus.” Palin delivered a speech at a church called Wasilla Assembly

This must be a liberal web page. I find it so funny that people are comparing Palin to Obama. I guess because there is no comparison to John McCain! And why don’t we ever question why the Fathers can’t be at home with the children? She has already done so much and part of that time was while she was pregnant with her fifth child! That is amazing! She’s got my vote!

I’m laughing out loud at some of the comments! “Oh my, we would not want anything taught in school that comes from the Bible!” But it’s ok to teach Darwin’s theory…a theory at that! Oh my, we would not want a lady as VP because she should be home changing diapers? If she change a diaper she can handle all the shit in DC. OH no her 17 year old daughter is pregnant!!! WAKE UP! You don’t have total control over your “Teen” kids…are you with them EVERY minute? NO! You are not even with your 10 year old every minute of the day! And we were all teenagers at one time so you know what I’m talking about. And for experience…she has more than Obama! And to “Mustbedreaming” Of course Obama would say a comment like that…duh! It makes him look good! And what a mean thing to say about- keeping her legs closed…are yours?

Ok, I think that all those comments of her being a bad mom or what she beleives in, are just that mean comments. What we should be looking at is she qualified to run the country. Everybody has something to hide, even those who are writing in to give their thoughts in this matter. Not only that, this is what makes America a great country, we can vote for anybody, even you. So why not look at the real issues instead of cutting everybody down to the core. Besides, all of you who made those nasty comments, do you know her? Have you lived all your life near them? Day by day or week by week hearing her, talking with her, seeing what she is really like. If you have then I think you have every right to voice your first hand opinions on facts that are true, and if not then lets just stick to the facts. Mine is that I’m not sure if she has all the qualifcations to be in such an office like this. But I’m sure she’ll give it the good old college try though. Which I’m sure everybody else will too. Besides that, who really is qualafied to run the country?

TO PATRICIA MAHONEY: I just have one thing I can’t resist commenting on: QUOTE: “I am proud of Sarah Palin. She decided to keep her special needs baby even when the option of abortion was offered to her.” END QUOTE How the HELL do you even pretend knowing this? I am going to assume that this is something you heard from a talking head political pundit on Faux news. Just because they say she was offered an abortion doesn’t mean she was offered an abortion. FIRST OF ALL, I have to begin by pretending that I believe Trig is her baby in the first place—WHICH I DON’T. But lets say for the sake of this arguement that I do… WHY WOULD PALIN’S MOST TRUSTED FAMILY DOCTOR ((whom she later flew hundreds upon hundreds of miles to be with after ‘leaking’ amniotic fluids for over 11 hours in Texas)) WHO KNOWS HER POSITION ON ABORTIONS—((get this now, listen carefully))—OFFER HER AN ABORTION???? Get your facts straight. (for the record, I agree with you that US Weekly doctors their covers when they want to and probably did this time too)

EXCUSE ME? McCain and Palin are NOT telling people that teenage girls should drop out of school if they get pregnant. Where did you get that, from a tabloid? Sarah Palin is trying to show you that NO MATTER what you face in life YOU CAN overcome it. I know from experience myself. If you think just by talking to your child that they will do exactly what you have taught them you are mistaken. Teenagers don’t make rational decisions. They follow their peers and frankly don’t always think their parents are right. Most teenagers think their parents are “old fashioned” and just trying to ruin their lives with their rules. I have THREE teenagers, I know. Let me tell you what teen pregnancy did for my daughter. IT MADE HER A STRONG WOMAN! She graduated from high school in THREE YEARS, she continued her education to become a Certified Nurse Assistant, and got a job in the ICU at a well known hospital. She lives in her OWN home with her 22 month old son and does a fine job taking care of him. She is contuing her education to become an Emergency Room Nurse. She NEVER buckled under the criticism and nasty comments she got from her peers and other parents. She overcame every obstacle that was put in front of her and will continue to do so. I AM DAMN PROUD OF MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER! So before you make any hasty decisions on judging McCain and Palin, think about what I just said. Even though her daughter is pregnant, she can and will survive it. She will be a fighter of her critics and overcome the ugliness in the world as a strong woman. Just like her mom!

I can’t believe the vitriolic comments coming from so-called Democrats or supporters of the Democratic ticket. I was an active, loyal Dem for 35 years until after the RBC meeting on May 31, which I’ll wager most hateful people here didn’t even watch. The DNC had an agenda in place since 2004 to nix Hillary Clinton’s run, even though, as we who pay close attention know, she won the popular vote. And she won the nomination, too, if you discount the cheating, selective disenfranchisement, caucus rigging, strong-arming, and intimidation by party hacks and Obama thugs situated at the polls. I know—I live in a caucus state—NV—where Hillary won 51% and got FEWER delegates than Obama. Democracy? I think not! And for all Hispanics here, did you not hear Donna Brazile proclaim “The party is now an urban party. We no longer need Hispanics and white blue-collar voters to win. Message to base: stay home”? The MSM and the party treated Hillary like dirt and are squelching the truth about how Obama was selected not elected. Google “We Will Not Be Silenced” and watch the preview to this documentary made by Dems. NOT Repubs! It should sicken you when you hear African American civil rights workers talk about how distraught they were, esp. in Indiana, seeing their own use the same voter-intimidation tactics that were used on them. MLK is turning in his grave! I will never condone corruption with my vote. Specious talking points like reproductive rights will not convince intelligent people. Roe v. Wade survived Reagan (Reagan!!!!!) and Bush Jr. It will NEVER be overturned. In no way do I think McCain/Palin will impose their views on the populace. It wouldn’t work if they tried, and there are more important issues to deal with. Obama belonged to a racist church for 20 years. Don’t tell me a cerebral person like him wasn’t attracted precisely by black liberation “theological” tenets upon which Trinity United is based. And how many people did YOU lose on 9/11 (me=3)? How close were you? Me=close enough to feel the pier shake under my feet when the towers collapsed. Democrats have turned into Rovian Republicans. And Palin’s having a Down syndrome son sews up my vote, as I am the sole caretaker of my adult (42y.o.)brother who has Down syndrome (I’m 52). Ah, if only all you moms would make sure your perpetually dependent children

Oh MY! This site is ridiculous. Too many of you cannot spell and what does that say about your education? Points to think about: Obama’s mother was a teen mother; Levi is not a pedophile, he’s a teenage boy; My mother was a teen mom ( I was really early:)My dad was not a pedophile. Religion? Let’s think about Jesus’ beginnings. I don’t think Joseph was a bad guy to step in and help Mary. Politics? Obama holds the record for pushing the most yellow buttons in D.C. He has proven to me that he cannot commit to a side on most issues. He plays the audience and says what he knows they want to hear. Hollywood should be his next stop. What an actor! He went to the most prestigious and expensive high school in Honolulu. Lucky him. I am a proud and loyal Republican, a public school teacher, a church goer and I cannot afford to send my children to fancy schools. I did not stay home with my children either, they needed to eat and have health insurance. I have always worked,(sometiumes three jobs at a time) because I do not believe in the hand-outs the Democrats in government have felt the American people deserve, because they are either breathing or just too lazy or picky to find work. Get over it folks!!!! Sarah Palin and John McCain are just what this country needs to get family life and values back on track.

Come on now, I am so sick of the Republicans just jumping on the ship without getting the facts. Do we really want to spoil the beautiful state of Alaska? Palin does and doesn’t care about the environment, global warming or near extinct animals. These were HER words. Who cares about her daughter? Kids will be kids. Let it go. Palin wants to take the science which we can prove out of the schools and fill it with stuff from the bible which has never been proven as being more than a tale passed down from family to family over the generations. Do you really think Earth is only like 7000 years old like the bible says or do you believe science and, um, the proven truth that it is millions or billions of years old? Come on now, I am so sick of hearing bible thumpers and their crap. Palin doesn’t believe in abortion even in the case of rape or incest! That is horrible!! If my daughter were raped and wanted an abortion, I would run to the doctor with her. Why should any person have to live with this child whom they may never fully love and may actually hate because it reminds them of the worst moments of their lives. What about the psychological effect on the person? She is NOT even close to being fit to be President. Yes, President because we dont know for sure that McCain will make it the full 4 years. If we heard about Palin running for President a year ago, she would have been laughed off the stage but now she is good enough? Every Republican in the Senate must have been so upset when word came about her. Anyone would have been better. I may have even voted that way if he had picked Huckabee. McCain made a HUGE mistake picking Palin to try to get the Hillary votes. She is NOTHING like Hillary.

Obama didn’t bash Palin’s daughter because his own mother was a teenager when she was pregnant with him; thats why. McCain/Palin ‘08!

To CK1: I admire your daughter. I admire you for supporting her. Truly, GOOD JOB!! But you are running for president. IF YOU WERE I WOULD ATTACK YOU TOO IF YOU SUPPORTED ABSTINENCE ONLY POLICIES WHILE STANDING NEXT TO A PREGNANT TEEN. Yes, that one line IS that simple for me.

Can it be proved that Levi Johnston had a child with a 13 year old based on basementfrog’s comment above on September 3,posted on 2008 6:18 PM? Would we feel safe if Palin is the VP and she had to make the decision whether to shoot down commercial airlines as Cheney did to Bush on 9/11? NO, NO, NO!!! Keep that woman out of Washington. McCain, if this is an indication of your decisions then you need to get out of Washington too, including the Senate.

I am so saddened to read all the negative comments regarding Governor Palin…we, as women, aren’t we supposed to be about empowerment & the unlimited opportunities afforded our gender these days? Whether you agree or not with Governor Palin’s ideology, where is your admiration for her achievements as a woman? Shame on all of you who are quick to judge & find her lacking….all because you do not agree with her politics….:(

I am appauled the your readers would go after a women and an experienced war hero. She must be a quick learner to be 44 and walking in those shoes. I don’t care if she is a women or a man she showed what she is capable of. Obama did cocaine and some made the remark about her smoking pot, come on! This race is about Obama (the name turns me off) and JOHN MC CAIN. Yes 72 is old but look how old people are living today. His mother at 96 looks sharp as a tack like many others I know. Old age the day and age is in the late 80’s. Look and see what we can learn from all the older americans. Look at all the old people in Washington that has lead this great country of ours. As for Sarahs daughter, our sons and daughters are going to war but can’t have sex. Everyone makes mistakes. It’s america and if a girl wants to have sex at that age she can. She knew what she was doing and is taking responsibility. This has nothing to do with her mother. Read the polls on the age women start having sex across america. I am very excited about her. You go girl.
