Palin: Trailblazer or Bad Mother? You Decide!

Moms debate over whether Sarah Palin would make a good vice president.

trailblazer_cover_270.jpg

There is no bigger news this week than vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. Mothers everywhere are at odds over whether this mom of five is fit to be VP.

McCain met Sarah Palin for the first time in February at a National Governors Association meeting, where they chatted for 15 minutes. They met in person for a second time last week, when he invited her to his ranch in Sedona, Arizona. There, McCain offered her a spot on his ticket. Despite barely knowing her, McCain has called Sarah Palin his campaign "soul mate."

In Alaska, Governor Palin...

• Challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill.

• Used her veto and cut budgetary spending.

• Put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

• She's also being investigated for the firing of a commissioner for public safety, Walter Moneghan. Mr. Moneghan claims that he was fired as commissioner because he refused to fire a state trooper who was divorcing Palin's sister. Plus, her opponents claim she simply doesn't have enough experience to be Commander in Chief, should something happen to John McCain.

The governor of Alaska is the mother of 5 children--Track, 18; Bristol, 17; Willow, 13; Piper, 7; and Trig, 4 months. As we all know by now, 17-year-old Bristol is pregnant, and 4-month-old Trig has Down syndrome. It has been reported that Palin went back to work just three days after giving birth to Trig.

The conversation got heated at momlogic yesterday, when we ran "The 'Juno' Effect Strikes Washington."

Mom Kate said: "Don't waste your vote on someone who will open up Alaska to drillers and take away women's reproductive rights. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she is good for women."

But not everyone agrees with Kate...not by a long shot. Go to PAGE TWO to hear other moms' opinions.

First, I hoped because of my comments that this does not get put off to the side and not get posted, becuase everyone is entitled to their own opionion and this is mine. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I ASSUME, I DON’T KNOW APPARENTLY MOST OF YOU ARE AFRAID TO GIVE YOUR NAME, WHAT’S THE MATTER YOU DON’T STAND FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN??? As I read the above I am so disappointed as to how many men and women are democrats with no brains. It sure is sad that men and women today are just as ignorant as yesterday. Democrats no longer represent the middle income people anymore, it’s either the rich or the welfare junkies, not those of us in between. Wake up, it’s 2008 and the Democrats have shown nothing to assist the middle class. Only the Republicans have. I read that we also have very jealous women out there, apparently you do not know how to raise your children and balance a job. I did it in the 1970’s and 80’s, raised two children ALONE, I went to college 4 nights a week and worked two jobs and in between took care off my 2 children who both graduated from school who both have good paying job and did an excellent job raising their children with 1 ready to head off to college, by the way one of my children has a college education. We are not low class but middle class I only averaged back then $20,000 per year and was still able to do what I did and I was a Democrat then but changed my party when I saw Democrats were no longer helping the little guy. Ladies and men get over yourself, SARAH PALIN will make an awesome VP and her children will not be neglected, she’s a Governor isn’t she? Do her children look neglected, most women in this day and age have been balancing careers and rasing children for decades now and their children have turned out fine. Don’t compare her to the mothers out their who don’t raise their children and worry about where they are going to get their next fix from, you all need to be worrying about them. So women and men get over it, she has my vote 10 times over. Democrats speak of change, but HOW unless you have legislative backing, it will never happen. Republicans

My daughter also has Down Syndrome and she began an early intervention program at 2 months of age. We were VERY lucky to live in a State that takes Special Education seriously and puts alot of money into it. She is now 23 and works in the local community, and I just shake my head when I think of Ms.Palin’s political experience and of the future for her youngest child. Is he enrolled in any kind of early intervention program, even if only geting physical and occupational services? He will also need Speech therapy services, and other various medical services. It can be a full time job being an advocate for your child. Sarah Palin seems to me that she is just parroting code words that she has heard about people with special needs.I chose to have my daughter. I do not want someone who could possibly become President to take that choice away from other women.

So many republicans using this forum to BASH obama and PRAISE paulin? The question was CAN SHE HANDLE IT? She might be able to but obviously her daughter isn’t being monitored. She will be a better candidate in about 15 years. Anyways as a republican I cant vote mccain no matter who he chose as a candidate.

As for the Palin’s sister’s ex husband, a State Trooper, he was investigated & then fired after tazering his 10 yr old son! As someone who spent yrs as a Correction’s Officer, this certainly qualifies as a firing offence. Sound’s like she does her job no matter the relationship’s. Just like an honest women to do what’s right, not like the good ol boy’s who would have slapped him on the back & buried the paperwork. Frankly I’m stunned at the amount of fire & brimstone against this women. I bet if she wasn’t so attractive the balance would be more in her favor. Let’s face it I’ve seen this more times than I can count, women stomping other women. I quess fighting all these years against the glass ceiling only applies if it’s a man. Jealousy amoung women is on top of the list for women not being as successful in the workforce. I can almost hear the hissing! As a mom of a young women this makes me very sad. You want to tell your daughter’s they can be anything they work hard to do

well, how does one enforce a policy to a country she can’t enforce in her own home? Abstinence Please! In 2008 with all that teens have to deal with, you are handing them loaded guns if you choose not to eduacate just hoping for the best. That’s just plain old ignorant. If the difference between a pitbull and a hockey Mom is lipstick, she wasn’t wearing any… Because she’s ruthless! How dare she choose a position over the needs of her family????? No one has to take aim at her daughter because Sarah single handedly threw her own pregnant child under the bus when she opened her up to public scrutiny knowing her situation. When she accepted to run on the ticket not caring what it would do to her she put her child on display wearing a scarlet letter…. Be very sure she will treat the USA no different, grrrrrrrrr!

Are you women that stupid. Have you forgotton what it was like to be a teenager in love? I bet everyone of you knows of a young girl that got pregnant because she was in love with her boyfriend. Is this really a political decision? Is the decision on if she should keep her baby, or abort, a political decision? If a mom chooses to have a life outside her home…is that a political decision? The half lies and down right lies I read on all the candidates makes me sick. I am especially upset over the partisian attacks on this woman. Give her a chance to show us what she is truly like over the next few weeks. These attacks will be heard everytime a woman runs for a powerful office. That I can understand, but I don’t understand why women are so eager to keep the glass ceiling in place for our daughters. I supported Hillary running and I support Sarah’s efforts, until she shows me why I shouldn’t. I think she is an outstanding role model! Oh, I was one of those horrible girls that got pg in high school, married my boy friend and was supported by our families…Now we are a wonderful family of four. Take your blinders off…love happens.

This is to woman to woman and to all who agree with her. Like I said, people who do not give their name are hiding behind their comments. What does “you are still as dumb as a rock”, mean? How old are you 5? It’s more like Child to Woman. I really cannot believe that I justifying what I wrote earlier, but ignorance is Bliss and I guess that’s what attracted you to make the comment you made. No matter how much you educate your children they are going to do what they are going to do, so what you are saying is that you were raised a saint? I doubt that very much, you’re on this site because you are a mother, not a saint and apparently an uneducated one. Most children are not educated about sex, because today’s parents born out of the 70’ and 80’s are to busy not being a parent. From what I see they are to busy working or not working at all. Most parents I see are uneducated junkies who have kids they have no business having. I feel Palin did a wonderful job with her family and you are just showing your democrated jealousy. Grow up, I want a Christian running my Country with good moral values. Right now as it stands, as long as Americans stay with Democrats it will always be a welfare country with uneducated children, who I definitely do not want running my Country. I deal with the children of today, the teens, just in my neighborhood alone, and let me tell you, they are the most ignorant children I have heard and seen, they cannot even speak our language correctly, they have no foundation, or any clue as to who they are. Girls want to be boys and boys want to be girls and all that is a product of their environmental upbringing of their parents. They walk up the streets in gangs yelling fowl words that are so nasty and when you make a comment about their manner they swear at you even harder, you want those type of children running your Country? That’s not just in my neighborhood, that’s in everyone’s neighborhood in every town, and city. Our Children of today in this Country is nothing to be proud of from what I see. So instead of commenting in this newsletter about what I had

I can’t believe some of the comments on here about Palin’s personal life and ability to mother her children. If she were a man no one would say anything about being at home this is pathetic. AND the fact that her daughter is pregnant ..come on now how many times did our parents tell us to do or NOT to do something and we did the exact opposite. This is a strong, intelligent woman that would make a great VP! Having flaws like we ALL do makes her more human more real to me.

Palin was mayor of a very small town. The entire population of Alaska is around 700,000. That’s experience? This nomination was an incredible example of pandering by the Republican party. I have a 17 year old daughter. If I had just delivered a special needs baby and had to deal with a pregnant daughter, the last thing I would do would be to take a job that will have me away from my family weeks, maybe months at a time. She is obviously in this for herself. I have absolutely no respect for that. If she was a Democrat, the Republicans would be all her for trashing “family values”. Palin herself was obviously an unwed mother- she had her first child 8 months after she wed.

I am honestly offended that you would even bring her daughter with down into the discussion. I was already upset with the mud-slingers who think that she’s an awful mother because her daughter is pregnant, and being a bad mother means she’ll be a bad vice president. Get on topic people! Rumors and personal business do not belong in this race. Focus on the issues.

Would love to discuss issues however she is being kept in a bubble because they are afraid her feelings might get hurt. She knew her life would be in the spotlight. I have every right to question her ability to do the job. My sister and her husband are doctors with a special need baby. I know how expensive and time consuming it is. They share the load equally but still need extra help. The VP requires tons of travel, long hours etc. Her husband will be helping but what about her involement, her focus on issues. Babies, especially special needs babies, get sick…alot. When my son was hospitalized, my husband and I spent 17 days living in ICU. Can she call in sick on a trip to the middle east? These are all legitimate questions. She had questions as to what the VP does. Maybe she should have found out before she accepted the nom.

If it was a guy that had a 4 month old down syndrome baby, a 17 years old pregnant daughter and also accepted to run for VP putting his family through all this I will also question his judgment. My grandma that has always voted Republican said to me just two days ago “That lady ought to be thinking ‘bout her kids”.

Hey bookbud, just as I thought must be a CNN ditohead. Get your fact’s straight! She’s been the GOVENOR, OF ALASKA, NOT THE MAYOR NOW! OR SHOULD I JUST SPELL IT SLOW! Now find out the population of her state that she is the executive of. Almost the same population of Dem. Vp Joseph Biden’s state, Delaware. Except he’s not a Governor, never has been one, & doesn’t run anything. She has more experience being an executive than The Entire Dem ticket together! She’s not running for President. But there so scared of this women’s accomplishment’s, that they can’t hold a candle to, that they will, lie, cheat & do everything to destroy her! That’s right that’s what Lawyer’s do! Oh I forgot A community organizer trump’s… School board, PTA, Mayor, Commander of The National Guard, & yes Governor of the State! I guess the Dem’s fiqure they can’t beat McCain & his record, so the coward’s think let’s beat up the girl. Who again is not running to be the President. But After how much she has irritated the lieing weassel’s I hope she does. Let the completely bias, non new’s & fact’s reporting media keep on doing what there doing. American’s are not going to be blind forever. Gone are the day’s of the media reporting the new’s. All they want to do is tell you their oppinion & try to get you to have the same. They also control what you hear. IE: She’s the Mayor of a small town! Lie, Lie, Lie! & you believed it! Start looking for the truth people! Can you say Communism…Media now controling & spinning the fact’s. If you like knowing you are being manipulated go to Russia or Iran. We need to fight this kind of behavior in America & start demanding the media give us the fact’s & Let us Decide. Hopefully most will then be able to make an educated decision on who to represent us.

First of all LADY, my name is Elisa and I hide from no one. Secondly did you say you were educated, because I can’t tell! Let’s me explain a few things to you. And I will be “quoting your own words” as YOU wrote them… “Most children are not educated about sex, because today’s parents born out of the 70’ and 80’s are (to)huh? busy not being a parent.” THE WORD is TOO, Honey. “From what I see they are (to)huh? busy working or not working at all.” AGAIN, THAT WOULD BE TOO, SWEETIE. “I feel Palin did a wonderful job with her family and you are just showing your (democrated)huh? jealousy.” AND THAT WORD SHOULD BE DEMOCRATIC, LOVE.AND I COULD NEVER BE JEALOUS OF A GROUP OF CONDESCENDING(if you know the meaning)WANNA-BE ARISTOCRATIC SNOBS WHO CARE NOTHING FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE. “just in my neighborhood alone, and let me tell you, they are the most ignorant children I have heard and seen, they cannot even speak “our” language correctly, they have no foundation, or any clue as to who they are.” Well what is “our” language? Last I checked, USA did not have an OFFICIAL language! JUST TO ENLIGHTEN YOU AS WELL,IT’S ALSO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD,SO APARENTLY YOU ARE ONE OF THEM; WHETHER YOU CHOOSE TO ADMIT IT OR NOT. YOU’RE NO BETTER BECUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY CAN AFFORD THE SAME STANDARD OF LIVING AS YOU BECAUSE YOU, THEM, YOUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN all RESIDE IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD. SO PLEASE,GET OFF OF YOUR JUDGEMENTAL PEDESTAL. NOT ONLY THAT, INSTEAD OF JUDGING THEM, MENTOR ONE OF THEM AND SHOW THEM THE CORRECT WAY..THAT’S WHAT JESUS DID. HE WALKED WITH THEM AND DEMONSTRATED THE CORRECT WAY, INSTEAD OF MOCKING THE ‘HAVE-NOTS” “They walk up the streets in gangs yelling fowl words” AGAIN, DARLING, THE WORD IS “foul” “FOWL” IS A BIRD! “Our Children of today in this Country “is” nothing to be proud of from what I see” YOU ARE JUST A MESS,BABY GIRL, THE WORD “IS” WAS THE INCORRECT VERB TENSE FOR THAT SENTENCE.YOU ARE A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY DEMOCRATS ARE FIGHTING TO BETTER THE AMERICAN SCHOOL SYSTEM BECAUSE IF YOU GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND SUSEQUENTLY WENT TO COLLEGE AND WAS GIVEN A DEGREE, THAT INSTITUTION NEEDS TO “renew” THEIR ACCREDITATION BECAUSE YOU ARE IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, SOPHISTICATED. YOUR ATTITUDE STINKS YOUR “so called” EDUCATION is poor, AND

I am a Obama supporter, the way Palin talked down about Obama was a community organizer as a useless job. I believe if she (Palin) had been a community organizer with her daughter, she would not be pregnant and unwed at 17!
