One Missouri mom was pronounced dead after performing a somersault on an inflatable slide during her stepson's birthday party.

Recently, a young mom died right in front of her eight-year-old son, after somersaulting off an inflatable slide.

According to police, the family was celebrating the boy's eighth birthday Sunday in St. Louis when 28-year-old Sheri Stevens broke her neck and died at the bottom of the slide.

The popular, bouncy inflatable device kids love to tumble and bounce in are a huge draw at state fairs and birthday parties, but statistics show they are just as capable of causing injury and death as amusement park rides.

In fact, according to recent studies, inflatable injuries increased 300% from 1997 to 2005!

And adults are also at higher risk of spinal injuries or paralysis due to bouncy injuries -- three women broke their necks while playing in an inflatable device in one year.

Experts recommend hiring professional supervision if you do rent one of those bouncy devices. And if you're attending a birthday party with one, make sure there are adults watching over children at all times -- specifically those who are trained in child safety.
