Political Baby Propaganda
Politicians use infants to further their agenda. Shouldn't the babies have a say?

A new website, Yes We Can (Hold Babies) is dedicated solely to pictures of presidential hopeful Barack Obama holding babies -- living proof that politicians and babies go hand and hand, just like ham and eggs or foreclosures and bailouts. Infants are consistently used, often against their will, as cuddly pawns of the campaign trail. Isn't it about time the babies stood up (well, actually just laid there) and said "No more! No, Mr. or Ms. Campaigner, I will NOT be used to further your political agenda!"
Obviously, the reason politicians make such a fuss over babies is they personify the future, family values and pure adorableness -- all swaddled in one photo op. But does that translate to votes? Perhaps. Because let's be honest, no one's going to be moved by a guy kissing a viable health care plan document. And speaking of guys -- it seems political women don't make the baby rounds nearly as much as their male counterparts. Pictures of Sarah Palin planting one on a baby constituent are scarce -- unless you count Trig.
Leveraging the power of babies certainly isn't a new practice. According to the book, "Presidential Campaigns," President Andrew Jackson was probably the first presidential candidate to kiss a baby. Or rather not kiss it. Jackson committed a major faux-pas when he refused to lay one on a dirty-faced infant and instead handed the kid off to a friend and walked away. Imagine if the incident had happened today -- the footage would've immediately gone viral on YouTube.
Does a presidential candidate holding a baby warm your heart -- or more importantly -- sway your vote?
