Cheerleaders Stage Mock Execution

High school cheerleaders stage a controversial routine with guns and mock slaughter. Shocked? Check out the video.

Recently, a performance by cheerleaders at a Texas high school pep rally sparked a battle between students and the administration over whether routines promoting gun violence are appropriate for school.

Cheerleaders at Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, Texas performed a skit wearing cowboy hats and carrying toy guns while they shot down cheerleaders dressed as the opposing team, the Center High School Roughriders.

Nacogdoches cheerleaders posted a video on Facebook forcing the Roughriders to kneel before them and pretend to shoot the girls in the head. The "killers" then drag the opposing team into a pile and celebrate by raising their guns and tossing money into the air.

Despite more than 120 students signing a petition protesting "gun promotion" at pep rallies, school principal Nathan Chaddick defended the squad, calling the skit "simple, innocent satire" to boost school spirit.

"Everybody enjoyed it and had a good time," Chaddick said. "They were calling the cheerleaders 'fearleaders,' That's just inappropriate."

Tell us -- do you think these cheerleaders went too far?

IT’S WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! Why would anyone want to mimic an execution. There is NOTHING innocent about it. I would NOT want any of my children mocking an execution, or any type of killing. There was NOTHING innocent about it. The principal should be FIRED. Not only is he supporting the the gun violation, he is supporting his school using a mock execution as sportsmanship. Surely there must have been a more creative way to get the message across that they wanted to beat their apponent. Apparently the cheerleaders aren’t very creative and couldn’t come up with a more constructive way to get their message across. To those who think people are just jealous of the cheerleaders—check your egos. Cheerleading is OVER RATED! To the students who signed a petition—BRAVO! Don’t stand for this show of violence and unsportsmanship behavior!

they were not being unsportsmanlike. the cheerleaders work extremely hard to increase school spirit. people need to grow up and see that. i dont see anyone else trying to boost school spirit.

Good Lord people! Let kids have fun. We are raising a bunch of whiney babies who will never be able to function in the real world. What’s going to happen when they get fired because they’re unable to do a job because of their lack of social skills? Misfits shouldn’t be allowed to rule the world. There is plenty of laughter heard in the video. Obviously the kids knew it was a spoof. Surely adults have more important things to worry about - the stock market, for instance!

i dont see why its such a big deal at our school. quite a few students from other schools say that they use guns frequently in their skits. and other schools hang the other teams mascot all around campus by nooses. whats the big deal?

Have you been to any of the games this year?? The drumline begins all the games with a jam just for the football team…maybe if you’d pay more attention you would notice. The band and the drillteam work hard also, we cheer when we can. Hell, we cheered louder than the crowd everytime the team needed it last game…so please leave your misconceptions to yourself because not all of us hate the football team and the cheerleaders, some of us actually, if someone like you can believe it, have friends from both organizations. All I’m telling you is, you can not just think that all orginizations hate eachother, beacause wether you choose to or not, I can tell you that we don’t. BTW the football team did amazing last game, ALL of us were pumped and happy to see them do a great job. If you still can’t believe that, try actually talking to a band person or a drillteam girl sometime.

Thank you Distinguished Alum…at least I know there are others who can understand and agree with the reasons the band can not always play!

In the NFL making a hand motion like you are cutting a throat is illegal and incurs a fine of tens of thousands of dollars. There is a reason for this. Killing people in a play about killing is NOT the same thing as mimicking execution for fun! First of all, this is a family event devoid of PG or R or G ratings because it is automatically expected to be G (General Audience). Pretending to line people up and then shoot them in the head is NOT rated G. This is NOT blown out of proportion. However, I can see how it could be an honest mistake. The cheerleaders involved should simply admit their mistake and THINK about what they were promoting. NOT AT ALL the right attitude for High School athletics which should never incur an “adult” level of content or encourage un-healthy attitudes as far as good sportsmanship. I don’t know how anyone could honestly claim that this performance falls under good sportsmanship, or good taste for that matter. These are our children folks.
