It's the thrill of the chase... going door to door, demanding goods from neighbors you barely even glance at the other 364 days of the year. The end result -- a sagging bag of sugar and fat that has obesity and diabetes written all over it.
We'd like to think we're the kind of parents who can allocate exactly how much candy enters the mouths of our little devils. But year after year, we find ourselves either nursing the tummy aches or, at the very least, ripping wrappers out of chocolate-covered fingers.
What do we do when they over do it? Momlogic contributor and pediatrician Dr. Gwenn says, "Don't feel guilty. Just make sure you get enough exercise and cut down on carbs for the next couple of days." Hmmm... that sounds doable.
And to keep them from stuffing their faces with the rest of it? Dr. Gwenn recommends freezing the remainder of the candy to avoid additional temptation. (Not sure that will keep mom from reaching in the ice box a few times a day.) You can also donate the candy to a food pantry, Meals on Wheels or to a group in your community who may be sending boxes of goodies to deployed soldiers. It's a sweet treat for them and gets it out of your house.
Win, win!
